105 Arrested in Chinese “Excelpolitan University” Gambling Bust in Phnom Penh

Breaking news from Cambodia can be found here. CEO often finds Khmer news and translates it into English for our readers if it is interesting to expats, locals, Cambodians living abroad and anyone who wants to stay informed of the latest local and international news stories about Cambodia and our neighbors in South East Asia. There are many sources for Khmer news articles and they can all be found here in one place. Most of the media comes out of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, but we cover national Cambodian news from all provinces.

SV International and their local partner certainly had grand plans.
They seem to have been quite serious players already.

ANd incidently, associated with a major online fraud bust in S'ville 2015.
"Last October, the Golden Royal was one of the Sihanoukville properties raided by Cambodian and Chinese authorities in search of an online fraud ring operating out of several hotels"...

This report from 2016

PS, Excelpolitan University's website is an empty shell.
Just a very basic cover story for an online casino is my best guess.

(underlined names - same mob)

Another 45 arrested in PP for VoIP scams happening now (saw it live wife translated, not that I needed it) They even organised a coach to take them away.

Many females involved too. Looked like some kind of warehouse, but steel doors.
Don’t listen to Chinese whispers.

Lol, more fake news according to some?
Hard to claim it is fake news now, Frank
- if they are so publicly rounding up even the training school of a major Chinese corporation like this.
This mob look like they had serious money on the table.
But still no protection from public shaming.
i was being sarcastic due to the many comments here denying the exodus

^^^
I am with you Frank, not a denier
but IMN (in my nightmares) i worry they will be replaced by chinese tourists.
I know Asia-bound chinese tourist numbers are dropping, but i reckon that is just a blip.

Anyway, the 300 arrests in Phnom Penh over past couple of days certainly demonstrates the current exodus is not a fairy tale..

April 3, 2019 the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Cambodian and Chinese authorities to prevent problems to Cambodian society arising from Chinese criminals is due to concerns about prision space. The large number of Chinese criminals getting caught daily would put further stress on the prision system.

The repatriation of Chinese nationals to China does not mean they escape justice, but means they will be punished in China.

We need to hear more about their fate on arrival back home. Maybe more media coverage might slow the number of Chinese criminals willing to set up shop in Cambodia.
