Many people are duped. There is a Filipino woman on death row in Indonesia. In Australia dozens of people have been accused but have never got to court. One man was a dentist in his seventies who brought heroin from India.
I had a mate who paid British pensioners to carry liquid cocaine in duty free bottles from Europe to Australia. A free trip plus $10,000 in the late 80s was quite an incentive. Typically they would carry four bottles totalling about three kegs. None ever got caught.

The Yoshe Ann Taylor thread dates back to 2014. The two threads could be merged as there are some repeat posts.

Just another criminal enterprise gone wrong, and in this case one of them managed to get out by snitching on the others. Maybe they figured out between them that it was the best solution and Yoshe will be sending them packages and looking after them now. Smack dealers are a dodgy bunch.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Do you have doubts the court of appeal got it right when they said:
the Court of Appeal decided she was innocent and was the victim of an internet love scam.
“She was freed because the court decided she was a victim who was cheated by drug smugglers,” Mr Sosseny said.
What leads you to think that?John Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 10:30 pm I can't help thinking that if she was male nobody would have listened to her for a second and she'd still be languishing in prison for the rest of that 23 year sentence.
Do you mean in the sense that there are no drug smuggling, internet love scam Nigerian females preying on older western men? Or, do you mean the Khmer justice system gave preferential treatment in this case? Or that the western press wouldn't have picked up a story like this had it been a male?

Whatever happened she was very naïve - if it seems too good to be true, it is too be good to be true. I would never carry someone else's luggage.

A completely different case to be considered is that of Cookie (last name omitted). I did minimal research on his situation, but it appeared to include a filthy living space full of drugs and paraphernalia. He had apparently involved a young Asian female in his lifestyle, and they were both arrested and thrown in jail.
I would have ever known about this individual, except Ken copied and pasted Cookie's blog entry describing the horrors of jail on his personal blog site (LTO). Cookie was desperate to get out of jail, and wrote me, imploring me to find a way to remove the blog entry. His attorney was encouraging him to get it gone. One of Ken's closest relatives accommodated the request. I will reserve judgment about that situation, but any time an individual is in Cambodian jail, it's going to be the hardest of "hard" time, so to speak. Sadly, some stupid individuals may think that they can get away with unlimited debauchery and poor behavior in the KOW. That is not true. Immigrants and expats need to mind their p's and q's. Freedom? Yes. Freedom for all sorts of things.
Take advantage of the situation and take it too far and you'll end up in jail, or on a list of some sort at immigration, unable to "come home" to a place you've fallen in love with, or at least, are settled down in.
Edited to include the observation that he is a western "male," and got a bit of assistance that may help him out. What will happen to the Asian female, though?
