Chinese Media Reports Exodus From SHK

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Exactly right. The way forward is the same strategy as Naga World Casino has in Phnom Penh. Provide a great experience for all punters visiting the casino. Food and accomodation excellent as well.

Naga World caters for every nationality and although Chinese make up a huge chunk of their business everyone feels welcome.

The question is just how many Casinos could operate in Sihanoukville profitably based purely on numbers through the door.?

The Little Macau concept may be still viable. However it will require improved infrastructure and a return of confidence in the standard of buildings for a start.

Sadly Chinese gamblers is the total focus of the Sihanoukville casinos. Closed shop feel about the whole city. Nice if that was to change!!

I guess in a nutshell. Sihanoukville for everyone to enjoy - not just the Chinese.

Have you visited in one yourself or just heard the rumours? Because all the bigger casinos do welcome everyone. It's only those smaller ones that are/were China only and there only handful of those. And these ones always focused heavily on online gambling. Have you visited the casino at Xihu resort for example?

I worked for a malaysian company in shv who had online gambling as their main venture (along with a few other businesses). I just asked an ex colleague about this - they are still operating as usual. will be interesting to see what happens.

The 2017 overseas investment guidelines deter property development, entertainment,"landmark" buildings including hotels, etc etc
Investing in TOURISM - as it is aimed at satisfying chinese consumer demand - is on the pos+ priority list. !!!

And - 180 million outbound tourists are amongst the biggest spending per capita of any nationality.
Steep curve too- 375 mill by 2025.

That is very significant.
I call bullshit on these numbers. Today there are 13 flights on the schedule. How are those planes going to carry over 10.000 people? Must be giant planes.
yeah, the numbers seem very high for such a small airport, unless the construction companies that fly these people in n out of Cambodia are chartering flights.
Yes, about 37 a day.....
Well I haven't checked with the airport but Google reckons there are an average of 41 flights per day departing from Phnom penh, and the average jumbo (747) can hold around 400 pax so I guess it's not unrealistic. But the moon festival is definitely part of it, like Tet for Viets, they all want to be home for it.

What posters here suppose to be the case in their imaginations is not the same as reports from those who are directly observing the events.

But that note is from Sihanoukville airport which cannot handle 747 size planes. The planes landing there are 737, A320 and small ATR-72 size planes. Max. capacity under 200.
