FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

CAMBODIA VS PAKISTAN, 6 June 2019
Prediction for last night's match between Cambodia and Pakistan.
Cambodia – Pakistan
ASIA: World Cup - Qualification - First stage - Final
14:30 Cambodia - Pakistan
Thursday, 06.06.2019 at 14:30, Cambodia vs Pakistan will play in the qualifiers for the World Cup in Qatar. Cambodia has only one home win over the past two years.

Cambodia

Today's hosts played the last official game in November last year. They then lost 3-0 on the Vietnamese side in the last round of the Suzuki Cup. Cambodia had a modest evolution in the tournament groups, finishing 4 in a group with Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam and Laos. They only got 3 points, after a home win with Laos, score 3-1. Cambodgia played in a friendly match earlier this year. They lost 0-1 on their own in March 9 in front of those in Bangladesh. The success of Laos in November was the first for Cambodia in front of its supporters since June 2017.

Pakistan

If the Cambodians are bad at home matches, Pakistan has disastrous developments on foreign soil. From September 2013 onwards, Pakistani people were forced to travel once only. It's a 2-1 on the Nepal field in September 2018. The guests evolved last fall in SAFF Championship last year but left the tournament after a defeat with India, score 3-1. Since then, there have been two friendly matches for the Pakistani, both in front of Palestine. They lost every time 2-1 and 2-0 respectively.
We have two modest teams in front of us, without major achievements in international football. The World Cup seems an impossible goal for both, but they try to make a beautiful figure, playing soccer for pleasure. Pakistan has a rigorous move away, which is why I do not expect it to impress today. We chose victory for Cambodia with a 1.85 odds.
Great result for the Cambodian team in the first match against Pakistan. RESULT: 2-0 Cambodia wins.

Well done Cambodia, but to put these great victories into perspective, Pakistan have NEVER won a match in the FIFA qualifying rounds.

Pakistan go down against Cambodia after taking lead

KARACHI: Despite having taken lead Pakistan were put out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualifiers when they were beaten by Cambodia 2-1 in their home leg outing at the Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha on Tuesday night.

Pakistan had lost the first leg at Cambodia 0-2 on June 6. Pakistan maintained their poor win-less record in the qualifiers which they first entered in 1989-1990.

2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Round 2: Cambodia fixtures, opponents revealed
Image
The second round draw for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and 2023 AFC Cup Joint-Qualifiers was held at the AFC house today, July 17, 2019. We take a look at who Cambodia will face in this phase of qualification along with their schedule.

The second round draw for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers has finally been made with teams learning their opponents for the year ahead. Cambodia were among the teams present for the draw, after a successful first round qualification.

The Angkor Warriors played South Asian side Pakistan in a two-legged play-off tie, overcoming them by four-one on aggregate. Despite their success, the ASEAN side were thrown into pot five of the qualification process due to their world ranking (169).

Taking their place in pot five in the draw, Cambodia were placed against Hong Kong, Bahrain, Iraq, and IR Iran in Group C of the qualifiers. They will now go through a long process during which they will play each team twice – once home and once away.

A finish in the top two of their group would send the Angkor Warriors straight through to the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. It may also ensure their place in 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

However, if they were to finish below that, Cambodia will be eliminated the FIFA World Cup qualifiers but continue their march towards the Asian continental cup.

1. September 5, 2019 – Cambodia vs Hong Kong

2. September 10, 2019 –Cambodia vs Bahrain

3. October 10, 2019 – IR Iran vs Cambodia

5. November 19, 2019 – Hong Kong vs Cambodia

6. March 26, 2020 – Bahrain vs Cambodia

Officials tease FIFA squad selection

Officials at the Cambodian Football Federation say they will release national team squad selection for the upcoming visits of Hong Kong and Bahrain, after the conclusion of the quarter-final stage of next week’s domestic HE Cup.

In July, Cambodia were drawn in group C – alongside Iraq, Bahrain, Hong Kong and group favourites Iran – for the second round of the Asian qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

With the kingdom playing two group games next month, Cambodia first welcome Hong Kong to Phnom Penh’s Olympic Stadium on September 5, 2019 before the visit of Bahrain on September 10, 2019. Round 2 matches will be played between 5 September 2019 through 9 June 2020.

The group winners and four best runners-up (12 teams in total) will advance to the third round of Asian World Cup qualifying. Those 12 sides will also automatically qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup, with the next best 24 teams competing in a separate qualifying competition to determine the remaining sides that will take part at China 2023.

Indonesia v Malaysia: a cauldron of passion and an armoured personnel carrier
There’s no love lost between the south-east Asia rivals prompting Malaysia’s request for protection in Jakarta for World Cup qualifier
John Duerden
Wed 4 Sep 2019 10.59 BST
The biggest and loudest game anywhere this week is in Indonesia. Eighty-thousand fans are expected to pack the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta to watch the national team take on neighbouring Malaysia as 2022 World Cup qualification in Asia gets into gear.

Singapore and Malaysia have a deep-rooted and complex relationship but there is hostility when Indonesia and Malaysia come together. Not for nothing has the Malaysian FA, according to reports, requested that there be an armoured personnel carrier on standby. These two south-east Asian nations squabble over a whole host of cultural aspects from who invented batik, wayang kulit (the almost-forgotten but now reviving art of shadow puppetry) and rendang. What really does unite is a love of football.

South-east Asia connects to India to the north-west and China to the north-east and is influenced by both. Home to over 600 million people, this is the most passionate football region in the continent and Indonesia is the most passionate football nation in south-east Asia. This is why – forget China and India – the real sleeping giant of world football is this sprawling archipelago which is home to over a quarter of a billion people.

Indonesia was the first Asian nation to make the World Cup when known as Dutch East Indies back in 1938. That remains the sole south-east Asian appearance on the global stage, a sad fact that is not going to change in 2022, though there is some optimism about 2026 when the tournament expands and Asia’s automatic allocation doubles from four to eight.

Thailand and Vietnam (who are in the same five-team group and also meet on Thursday) are the best in the region with the latter recently overtaking the former as the top dogs. Yet even this pair would be satisfied just by surviving this second round of qualification as one of the eight group winners or the best four runners-up to get into the next stage where the fun really begins.
