The word ពរ
In this sentence: ម៉ែមិនអាចពរកូនបានទេ។
from the context ពរmeans to pick up or hold? possibly
but according to the dictionary it means to wish or bless
Alternatively "to waterproof something"
Neither definition fits the context of the story.
Is there anyone who can help me out with this?
Thanks

Re: The word ពរ
Why do you say that it doesn't fit the context of the story? What would you say is the context of the story?
Your translations of ពរ seem to be on track.
Throwing the entire sentence in GT it gives, "I cannot bless you", or "Men can not bless the child".

Re: The word ពរ
Because it continues ធំហោយ ie "you're too big(to be blessed?)" And in the picture the 6 year old girl is trying to pick her up. So doesn't fit the context.
And my khmer friend says here it means to carry but i can't find that definition in a dictionary. So just looling more into it so i can better understand how the word is used.

Re: The word ពរ
ម៉ែមិនអាចពរកូនបានទេ
ម៉ែ means 'mother.' If the mother is talking it can mean 'I.'
មិន អាច means 'not can' or 'cant.'
ពរ means 'bless.'
កូន means 'child.' If talking to the child, it can mean 'you.'
The other words are part of the Khmer sentence, but dont need to be explained when translating into English.
So it could be translated as:
The mother cannot bless the child.
or
I cannot bless you (When the mother is talking to the child).
If you give more context, it may become clearer? When is this used. What else is said with it?

Here's a link to what I'm reading.
The word bless doesn't make sense in this context.
My khmer friend says here it means "to carry" but I can't
find that definition in a dictionary so wondering if that's a special meaning
or something?

Sorry can't find anything in a dictionary, but my kids assure me that in that sentence ពរ means to carry like a baby or maybe like to piggy back.

To carry a child on ones hip, or
To wish you good luck (bless).

Re: The word ពរ
Aoy por is to bless. That sentence is literally 'mum can't carry you (on my hip)'. Without further context it's impossible to know if there is some grander meaning like
"Kid, time to go live your own life" or something.
