UK Passport/ PP UK embassy question.

Post by curiomo »

This isn't specific really to Cambodia but as I'm living here maybe someone has the best advice. My passport is nearly full, and I'm looking at the passport form for overseas on gov.uk site, do I need to extend or renew? I still have years left on it, so I'm assuming renew, but just want some clarification. Thanks.

you can no longer extend it you must renew it. Do not approach the embassy for this as they are too busy with whatever they are doing to deal with UK citizens.
If you are in Cambodia you deal with the VFS service in Phnom Penh Tower on Monivong in Phnom Penh city

VFS seems to be universally reviled and still succeeds in picking up more and more outsourcing for Embassies.

I was able to replace mine online (I was in Singapore) with everything back and forth by courrier. This was around 5 yeard ago so things may have changed.

Depending if you trust couriers from Cambodia (DHL is here) this may be your best bet. I let my passport expire so it was a slightly more complicated process because I had to send in a signed application forn with references. But if you renew one that is still valid I seem to recall all of the work on your end is online and you just need to receive the passport by courrier.

by appointment only, and how do you make an appointment if not for a visa?
no phone number
no working email address
the web app is only to apply for a visa

In my case I went to their office with my passport and was allowed in to make an appointment for a later date.
Note that this is an office for UK on Monday to Wednesday and for Australia on Thursday and Friday
