Cambodia set to host regional swimming championship
Cambodia is readying to host next week’s 43rd Sea Age Group Swimming Championships with the Khmer Swimming Federation asking for the support of the public in hosting the prestigious regional event.

Jeffrey Leow, President of the South East Asian Swimming Federation, said that the competition aimed to “…encourage friendly competition and sharing of knowledge between young swimmers in the region. It has since become the major development meet for young athletes.”

Last year’s competition was held in July in the Philippines. Vietnam topped the medal table with 119, almost double that of second-placed Thailand. Cambodia failed to register a medal.

The 2019 Phnom Penh edition is pegged for a 28-30th June at the Indoor Swimming and Aquatics Center located at the Morodok Techo National Sports Complex.

The final touches were put on the centre in April 2017, putting an end to phase 1 construction of the estimated $150 million venue. The Morodok Techo National Sport Complex is located on an 85-hectare site 15 kilometres north of central Phnom Penh.

(Phnom Penh): Cambodia will be the host for the 43rd Asian Swimming Championships for three days on June 28-30, 2019.

On June 25, the Cambodian Swimming Federation announced that the competition would welcome 406 participants from 10 countries. 20 Cambodian swimmers will participate in the regional competition.

The Cambodian Swimming Federation invites students and locals to watch the game for free to cheer on the Cambodian participants. (It's not clear if this applies to foreigners and tourists.) The Cambodian swimmers are still inexperienced at this level of competition, and can not expect to win many medals, but the team deserves a cheer. Go Cambodia !

Cambodian Swimmers Attending International Tournament in Hungary
Three Cambodian swimmers and a coach are attending the 2019 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Hungary.

The update was shared with local media by Mr. Hem Kiri, Secretary General of Cambodian Swimming Federation (CSF) recently, adding that the competition lasts from August 20 to 26 in Budapest.

The event, he added, attracts the participation of swimmers from many countries in the world.

The federation's secretary general acknowledged that to succeed in the completion is difficult, but it is at least an opportunity for the Cambodian team to sharpen their capacity.
