Westlake (aka former Sihanoukville) is not a Chinatown. It’s not even a city with a sizable Chinese population as in some western countries. It’s not even a colony like in the old Colonial period.
It’s a takeover. The first Mainland Chinese city in the Kingdom of Wonder (of many planned, possibly the entire country).
There is no Xinhua or CCTV to cover up stuff as in other cities in the PRC.
In a karmic way, it’s like getting the nitty gritty of what the future holds for the entire world.

That, and more generally, there is a big difference in culture and attitude between those from the mainland and those living in other countries eg HK, KL, Singapore and other western countries.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 1:03 amOf course, all Chinese people are not the same - they are different like us all.xandreu wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 12:09 am It's strange that, despite it's sizable population, the Chinese in the UK go largely unnoticed. Even in London, which like most major cities, has it's own Chinatown, the Chinese are known for pretty much keeping themselves to themselves. I have a good friend who lives in the centre of Chinatown in Madrid, Spain, and he says pretty much the same thing.
I'm sure they're probably involved in all sorts of underhand dealings in the UK, much like the Russians, but they keep it very much out of sight, and it would be extremely unusual to see a Chinese citizen causing the kind of mayhem they seem to cause in Cambodia. Even when the subject of racism comes up in the UK, most people think of Indians, Pakistani's and black people. The Chinese barely register on the racism radar.
There must be something about Cambodia attracting a certain kind of Chinese. I know it's commonly assumed that they see themselves as a superior race, which partly explains their behavior, but they don't display that kind of behavior in the UK, nor, as far as I can tell, the rest of Europe.
BUT, in Cambodia, there is work for construction workers - guys from the countryside, people who can't get work in China, which means lots of single guys living together in bad conditions, far from their families, and not much else to do when they are not working, except get wasted and fight.
There are also the casinos and the easy pickings that attract criminals. And there's not much in the way of Cambodian law enforcement. Maybe the recent crackdown on online gambling will help solve this problem, but i don't think so. Casinos attract dirty money, drugs, prostitution and gangsters.
It has also been suggested that the Chinese authorities are exporting their problem citizens to Cambodia.

From what I am seeing on FB the past few weeks, many young Khmer males are completely fed up with what is happening in sv.
Starting to see some threatening rhetoric which has 5aken a long time to arise given the takeover of their town.

Back in 2017 & early 2018, there was a lot more Khmer - Chinese fighting/violence reported on here, before it seemed to die down as Chinese on Chinese violence escalated a lot & became the normfrank lee bent wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 12:07 pm From what I am seeing on FB the past few weeks, many young Khmer makes are completely fed up with what is happening in sv.

I thought at the time that the Khmer kids/men realised they were well out-numbered by the newly arriving Chinese & facing a losing battle every time they resorted to violence
