Battambang, Cambodia News: A tragic event occurred yesterday, on August 15, 2019 at 17:30 at Group 01, Village - Maung Commune, Moung Russe District, Battambang Province, when a murder was committed by a suspect named Chum Chey (known as Chey),a 17-year-old male teenager from Maung village.

The suspect, who was being medically treated for an undisclosed mental illness, grabbed a knife to kill his victim, Un Korn (known as PAP), his 16-year-old female cousin, while the victim and the rest of the family were sitting watching television.
According to witnesses, the suspect conducted an unprovoked attack on his cousin, seizing her by the hair and stabbing her in the neck while the family looked on helpless. After the act, the suspect did not flee and was immediately detained by the family and taken to the police station at Maung Russey district for investigation.

After questioning by police, Brig. Gen. Jit Vannny, deputy commissioner of the Criminal Work Plan, said that although the suspect acknowledged that he had committed the murder, he may not be responsible because he has a mental disorder. However, on August 16, 2019, police filed a case for the accused to appear at the Battambang Provincial Court .
