Two Women Arrested for Trafficking Minors to China
Cambodia Breaking News (Phnom Penh): On July 26, 2019, at 8 pm, two women, Sokha Rotheany, 18 years old, and Thach Thavy, 30 years old, were arrested for trafficking 4 Cambodian females, including 2 minors, from Cambodia to China.
The raid was led by Lieutenant Sor Thet, police chief at Phnom Penh police station, coordinated by Mr. Kouch Kimlong, prosecutor, and Lieutenant Hout Sopheak, Director of Human Trafficking and Minor Protection. The police made an investigation for a few days; the suspects were arrested and sent to the police station for questioning.
The victims said that a woman contacted them and convinced them to go to work in China, where they would be paid US$3,000 per month, so they decided to go to China.
However, when the victims told the broker that they didn't have passports, she told them that they don't need passports because they will travel to the Vietnam border where people will help them and sent them to China.
The suspects were detained for questioning and case preparation. According to the law of suppression of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in 2018, the article 11 states that in case of illegal exportation, the person who transported people out Cambodia illegally will be punished with imprisonment from 7 years to 15 years prison.
The four victims were sent to the Ministry of Social Affairs in Phnom Penh.
