Re: GoFundMe Generation
^^^ The cost of housing relative to average income has gone haywire.
New Zealand is one of the more catastrophic examples. The country's population explosion of the last decade has left NZ 130,000 houses short of what is needed.
The mass of the relentless yearly migration gains of 50,000 or so, peaking at 70,000 a few years back, are new immigrants.
With migration levels outpacing construction, prices and rents will remain at crippling levels.
Apparently, as a non-American, I am not supposed to comment on that country. However, some here qualify to do so. Perhaps one of them could explain how and where this year's influx of many hundreds of thousands of illegals into the US will be housed.

We will send them to the USSRNZ.
Our fearful leader here has just ordered that no further refugee applications will be accepted from those passing through intermediary countries prior to trying to enter USA.
This is in line with UNHCR conventions and should satisfy the chicken Hawks who have so many opinions on the conduct of US military operations yet never served in their own armed forces.

Re: GoFundMe Generation
The begpackers, gofundnme, etc., I don’t mind. Because I have the choice to give money to them or not. When these loonies control the government and pass laws to have the government take money from me to fund their begpacking, gofundme, and other loonie ideas, that’s where my dander goes up.
The official title of Nazi was national socialists. Yet socialists decry all that oppose them as Nazis.
I don’t get it.

I suppose I stayed quiet from the start of this thread. I did so deliberately. My point, more than anything, was that the route to trying to get what people want, was to get others to pay for it.
One or two posters made a very credible response regarding healthcare and emergency medical treatment. I'll admit, I hadn't really thought that part through. Nonetheless, If we make exceptions for those (and I in no way undermine their cases), my point was always about those that don't want to work, or earn, their way in life.
Perhaps I am too simplistic. Perhaps I am too old too really understand. Who knows?
My position remains the same. Get off your fat ass, get a job, go earn the money you need. Then take a life break. I've worked for 35 years. I earned the right to take a break and judge everyone around me. Cambodia or otherwise, I earned it.

Then of course you are unfamiliar with angel investing or venture capitalism in which moneyed interests are approached to fund startups.Yerg wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 2:40 am ....The whole concept of asking others to pay for things that you don't have the money to pay for yourself.
Now, call me old-fashioned, however I was always brought up on the principal that if you couldn't afford it, you don't buy it. Perhaps I'm now considered a dinosaur on this score, but what are the views of the balance of the community on this?
....
And would also be unfamiliar with bank loans to both businesses ("commercial paper) and to individuals (eg mortgages).
You would also be unfamiliar with the concepts of financing for eg car purchaes and credit cards both of which are loans.
And you would be unfamiliar with the idea of selling shares in a company (aka capitalism) in order to raise money for expansion.
When I need advice about life, I just check in here.

That's a little shallow Multi. Of course I am familiar with all of them. Investing is a risk-based business that might see a return on said investment. It also might not, but the investor knows that. Blithely handing someone money through GFM is not a flaming investment.Multipox wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 9:10 pmThen of course you are unfamiliar with angel investing or venture capitalism in which moneyed interests are approached to fund startups.Yerg wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 2:40 am ....The whole concept of asking others to pay for things that you don't have the money to pay for yourself.

Bank loans to businesses, I am familiar with also. And they are often secured against some type of collateral. Quite often, small or start-up business directors will secure said loans against their personal property. These loans are not just handed over willy-nilly, with the borrower expected to... Wait, that's right, a borrower. Someone who is risked as someone who might just pay some or all of it back, with interest. Is GFM a loan that will be repaid in full with interest, with relevant credit checks and risk assessment? No, it's some freeloader not prepared or unable to do the hard yards themselves.
And financing for a car. That's right. Also secured against the collateral of the car. Don't pay, lose the car.
Shares... Yes, they too are a risk, and come with potential reward. No guarantees, but at least the hope that you luck-in on one of them.
Have I made enough holes in your argument for you yet, or should we continue?
