Buried.

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

The glasses thing is very much anecdotal, and I believe it's told more as a simple way to explain what happened rather than having much truth.

I wonder if the KR pulled gold teeth like the nazi's did?
It's certainly possible that some did, but their anti-materialistic philosophy would seem to be in conflict with that idea. There were as you know large amounts of trade in timber/ gems/ forest products at the time though and gold was a viable commodity. There were rumors around for a long time about a huge stash of tonnes of "Khmer Rouge gold" in the Malai/ Samlaut area but if it ever actually existed or was found nobody is saying.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
