I was in Kathmandu at the time of Nepal's big shake in 2015 where 10 000 people died and many more lives were so terribly affected. Several hotels in Thamel (Nepal's tourist ghetto) were flattened too easily due to what I suspect was the same cost cutting with construction materials.

10 storey building going up a few doors along from me: they poured some reinforced concrete pillars, then seem to have run out of concrete for a few pillars. They took the formwork off, put on a bit more formwork, and now awaiting topping up those pillars, before the next floor slab goes on. Is this normal? Shouldn't the pillars be poured in a single go between each slab?
