Toddler eaten by crocs SR

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

And for those that continue to make false generalisations.... maybe read this

This bit is pretty relevant
If we meet an angry person from a given country X, we may suspect that most people in country X are often angry.

9 Australians were killed on horse drawn vehicles, 58 died falling out of bed, 26 died falling off chairs and 3 died either skiing or snowboarding in Australia during 2012. These statistics were provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in their report entitled "Causes of Death, Australia: Doctor Certified Deaths". Cambodians wisely sit and sleep on the floor, rarely use horse drawn vehicles and have no ski resorts. I am sorry Explorer, but it would appear to me that your countrymen take safety far less seriously than the average Khmer.

In Australia, it would be impossible for a child to get into a place like that. If this sort of thing ever did happen, they would be sued for a lot of money.
But not impossible to get eaten by Crocodiles in Australia. Plenty of Crocodile accidents happening in the Northern Territory and Queensland to people not heading safety warnings.

Fatal crocodile attacks rising in Northern Territory, data shows

Report shows 14 people died following attacks between 2005 and 2014, compared with 10 deaths in the 33 years to 2004
The number of people being killed by crocodiles in the Top End is on the rise, new data shows.

A study by the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, Royal Darwin Hospital and the Menzies School of Health Research has found croc-related deaths have jumped since hunting was outlawed in 1971.

Saltwater Crocodile Attacks In Australia

Saltwater crocodile attacks DO happen in Australia on a regular basis. (Most attacks are on pets and livestock, but unfortunately there also regular accidents involving humans, and about two per year are fatal.)

How to Prevent Australian Saltwater Crocodile Attacks
First of all: always, always observe crocodile warning signs!
Don't assume it's safe to swim if there is no sign! Crocodiles attack out of deep, still or muddy waters, where they can't be seen. Always stay well away from those.

Small creeks, waterfalls, rock pools etc. are usually fine, but if you're not sure stay out of the water. Ask first! Either the locals or the next tourist information centre.
Stay away from the water's edge. No matter if you are camping, fishing or taking an evening stroll: stay away from the water's edge.
Never stand on logs or similar overhanging the water. Australian saltwater crocodiles can jump to attack! Also, never turn your back, always face the water.
Don't return to exactly the same place at the water every day, or on a regular basis. Or one day a croc will be waiting there for you...
etc.

Attacks and accidents are whole different class from tragedies waiting to happen. Uncovered pit overflowing with crocodiles, definitely the latter.

Lots of belief in karma in Cambodia. If one is meant to die, then one will die. If one is not meant to die, then one won’t die. Personal responsibility doesn’t factor into the equation.

Sad. Maybe increasing wealth and education will change things. Judging from the increase in traffic accidents, maybe not.

RIP to the beautiful child and the family.

Is there an increase in traffic accidents?

I thought myself things have been improving, just accidents have more visibility lately

I also have 9 images of the skull which I can either submit to a mod so they can put in the Darknet section or I'll put them there myself once I get to 20 posts!
