Police Car Chase Yields 1kg Drugs from Laos Trafficker

Stueng Trang: On July 6, 2018, after a high speed car chase, narcotics police arrested a 41-year-old man, Pin Rith, for trafficking a 1kg bag full of drugs at Chhlong district, Kratie.

The police chased the suspect from Steung Treng until the national road 7, Chet Borey district, Kratie, where they arrested the suspect, who was found to be in possession of 1 kg of (non-identified) drugs which were cleverly concealed in a bag of 'Refined Chinese Tea'.

KRATIE - Kratie Provincial Court yesterday charged a military officer with trafficking more than one kilo of crystal methamphetamine.

Major Chan Sophal, the provincial anti-drug deputy police chief, identified the officer as Khin Rithy, 40, who is based in the province. The accused faces a life sentence if convicted.

Maj Sophal said the accused was arrested on Friday evening in Chetr Borey district.

“He was transporting drugs in his car from the Cambodian-Laotian border in Stung Treng province for sale in Kratie province,” he said. “He was arrested after police inspected the car and found a big package of crystal methamphetamine hidden inside.”

He added that police seized 1,032 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a Nissan car, a mobile phone, cash and drug paraphernalia.

Methamphetamine continues to flood into Cambodia from Laos. For some reason, the smugglers persist in disguising the drug in bags of Chinese tea, thus making it easier to identify. How many genuine travelers do you meet that travel with 1kg bags of Chinese tea ?

Stung Treng, Cabodia News: On June 29, 2019, at 12:40 pm, the Cambodian border police, at the Trapeang Kreal International border checkpoint between Laos and Cambodia, seized a male Chinese national arriving from Laos on suspicion of trafficking.

When he was searched, DING SHUQIANG, aged 28, was found to be carrying 900 grams of methamphetamine hidden in a bag of Chinese tea.
