Unidentified Foreigner "Ta Barang" Drowns in Village Pond
Cambodia Breaking News (Phnom Penh): On June 18, 2019, a 65-year-old homeless foreign man, that local people called "Ta Barang" (foreign grandfather), died of drowning in the village pond at noon, Sangkat Prek Kampus, Khan Dong Kor, Phnom Penh.
The local people said they felt pity for the foreigner, who was a disabled person with no family, who came to live in this village for a year. He lived in a house and received food from the villagers.
On the day in question, the villagers took food for the old man at his house as usual, but they didn't see him. Then when they searched for him, they found his body in the pond.
The police went to the scene to examine the body and determined that the victim died of drowning. The body was taken to prepare for the funeral. RIP "Taabarang", whoever you were.
CEO don't usually post photos of deceased foreigners on the open forum, but in this case, the man was alone and unknown, and there may be family looking for him. So, exceptionally, here are some photos taken of the deceased after he drowned. He was not in the water a long time so his body is intact. They say that the man was 65 years old, but that may be a police estimation.

sad;
How did they know he was 65 ( an estimate?) and had no family? Yet didn't know his name, or nationality?
You come into the world alone
you leave it alone

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Re: Unidentified Foreigner "Ta Barang" Drowns in Village Pond
Wow. That's a very sad end to a life and a stark reminder of what can happen if you are a foreigner old, ill, alone and without resources in Cambodia. But it is also an example of how generous poor Cambodians can be toward others, including foreigners. It sounds like the villagers took him in and looked after him in his last days. That might be more than he would have got in the west.
It would be good to hear that someone from the man's family came forward to claim the body, but it doesn't seem very likely.
RIP to a foreigner who died in Cambodia without even a name to call his own.
