Dress Code for Teachers

Post by EarlyCuyler »

Are ties necessary? I've been planning some combination of untucked dress shirts/polos and slacks - is that going to be too casual? I'd be bummed if I had to dress like a Mormon missionary. I suspect it varies by school, but I'm thinking of your average, not too sketchy language center.

On a related note: how difficult is it to find clothes for 'murican sized dudes in Siem Reap? Stuff in the range of XL shirts and 38" waisted pants? I know there are places that have shirts with the letters "XL" on them, but my understanding is that Asian XL can be smaller than what I'm used to.

Thanks.

It seems the worse the school, the stricter the dress codes.

If this is legit, I've got enough hubris to think I can at least avoid employment that requires a tie. I'm gonna try to roll with an untucked shirt too, because I'm super punk rock. I'll just wear a nice-looking (but ultimately budget) watch to offset it.

Fortune favors the bold.

You can get XXL sized shirts which are equivalent to western XL size in Psar Leu in Siem Reap. There is usually limited stock so if you buy 3 you usually clear out the vendor's stock. I have never been able to get my shoe size in Cambodia. The largest size available seems to be 43 and I need 45. I buy shoes in Singapore.

Most (serious) international schools have a clear dress code described in their Internal Regulations Handbook.

I have a few Xl tops here and take a small in the uk, slightly disheartening.

Not too sure about that waist size but I often struggle getting a long enough leg. Only a regular leg back home.
