Woman on a Bicycle Gets Bag Snatched on Monivong

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On June 11, 2019, at 06:20 am, an unidentified western woman was a victim of bag snatching while riding a bicycle on Preah Monivong Boulevard, Beung Kekong 1, Khan Chamkarmorn, Phnom Penh.

The victim said she was riding the bicycle on Preah Monivong boulevard in the direction from south to north, when suddenly, two suspects drove up behind her on a motorbike and snatched her bag which was in the basket. The suspects escaped.
The woman cried and said she was shocked because it never happened to her before and it was a frightening experience. The victim's bag contained a phone and some money.

After the incident, the local police contacted the Beung Kekong police and took the victim to file a complaint.

While I hate victim blaming and firmly believe that the people responsible for crimes are the perpetrators and only the perpetrators, I do think that some people could use a bit more common sense.

Carrying a bag in an open basket on a bicycle in a city that is known for ride-by bag snatching is thoughtless. I'd never go as far to say that someone deserved the crime inflicted upon them, but I just hope she's learned a valuable lesson and glad that nobody got hurt.
