British tourist chased by Nepalese lady for bargaining over a cup of tea

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

The Nepalese woman is correct, the hikers are dogs, the overpriced tea was 150 Nepalese Rupees or $1.79USD. Stay home, save money and let people have a living wage. Poverty Pimps in my opinion, it's not as if Nepal has had an easy go of it these past 5 years.

I'm curious if the British lady paid (and was being cased just because her bargaining caused offense) or if she refused to pay.

$1.79 is quite steep for a cup of tea.

Then again, so is Nepal.

Interesting story. I think anyone who has done any kind of budget level travel in developing (or more developed, even) countries will have tales of minor conflicts that may or may not have escalated into bigger problems.... Usually over pricing.

Most of my travels were before social media exploded, and I have never felt the need to youtube my daily life.

One incident that springs to mind is narrowly avoiding a beating from a mob of tuk tuk drivers in Colombo. I got spat on and took a punch to the mouth but got away. This happened after he'd taken me to completely the wrong place, and wanted an inflated rate for it. They tried a lot of intimidation, but I was young and stupid enough to stand my ground. The 'but you are a guest, just pay up' argument doesn't always fit. Exploitation does happen in both directions.
