Thailand: Paradise Lost? Part 1.

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Thailand: Paradise Lost? Part 1.

Post by Anthony's Weiner »

Thailand has seen rampant tourist development and expansion over the past 25+ years, but at what cost?

Is this sustainable or even ethical?

Social media has seen an explosive growth too over the last 15+ years, and one thing that annoys many governments worldwide is how the facts and figures delivered by their own agencies often bear no resemblance to the details posted ‘live and online’ by the worldwide army of grassroots commentators and locals on site.

In fact social media is having much sway that local governments and even global corporations are being shamed into scrambling to clarify, rectify or justify areas of concern.

Not just comments by the public are now on these web-mediums, but entire films and documentaries are now made, published and shared online.

Check out this DW report about the problems of rampant tourism…

watched before,
Mainly focus's on Phi Phi, Khao Lak an the Chinese tour boat trips.

little about Phuket island, Very one sided and those shots of patong beach were shot over 3 years ago before they brought in the 10% zone for umbrellas.

the interviews are from Koh Sirey where the fishing boats come into phuket island
BS about fish being expensive, i eat fish alot here and never more than $3 in the market

Should have been titled,
How Mass CHINESE tourism has destroyed Phuket

Yes its not great and some smaller hotels are feeding sludge into the sea and lots of construction all over the island but its not nearly as bad as the video makes out
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
