If same author, he also wrote this interesting piece - closer to home;

Five billion laundered.
"Dubbed the “Guangzhou Enterprise,” the operation consisted mainly of wiring drug money to a host of Chinese businesses like casinos, importers/exporters and factories..."

I wonder if there could be more to his death than meets the eye, re his writings in insight crime and particularly his disclosures of the Chinese/Colombian money laundering operations.

I'm an old friend of Arron's. He hadn't been involved in journalism for a good while, and not while he was in Asia, so I wouldn't start drawing links between his past work and his death. If anyone out there has any further information about the circumstances of his death, I would be keen to hear from them. Having lived in Phnom Penh myself, I can't believe one of my friends has ended up as one of the many foreigners who die in a cheap hotel room there. Very very sad.

Hi man!

I was an Arron's English student through Verbling platform and I cannot believe this story. I was contacted by Verbling Support team saying he passed away, I was thinking it was a lie but no. How the hell could this happen? He told me he needed to renew his VISA and he couldn't attend to classes between May 27th - 30th but on 31th he was supposed to be back again but... no news from then until support cancelled my classes. What is happening in that hotel as many people is dying due to overdose? Was Arron a morphine consumer? He doesn't look that kind of person... this is really weird.

Hi David, Nevins, May i ask if your friend/teacher was the Aaron Daugherty who wrote extensively on gang crime in Central and South America? Or another Arron.
If so, he sure did some interesting, cutting edge work.
In any case, commiseration for the loss of your friend.

Yes, he is! Maybe all kinds of people take drugs but most of them follow certain patterns and he looks like hardworker and responsible, but who knows... we had only a couple of classes.

Could it be a murder? Im seeing many people dying in that hotel, maybe a thief who simulated his death and stole some belongings.. or maybe Im making up a thriller movie.

Thanks for your comments!
