Unbelievable
BUT so true
Chinese feel they are ABOVE, Everyone and Everything
BUT so true
Chinese feel they are ABOVE, Everyone and Everything
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

https://www.theguardian.com/global-deve ... rt-in-fijiFinally, in April 2019, after media coverage of the fight by New Zealand website the Newsroom, the director of environment revoked Freesoul’s EIA approval. The company is due to face court later this month on environmental charges, which it denies.
For the moment, work has stopped and most Freesoul employees have left the island. The Guardian understands that Freesoul director Dick Peng wrote an email to those who assisted with the project, thanking them for their work and saying that the company would close down the Malolo project. Peng did not respond to the Guardian’s requests for comment, but the company has previously denied any breach of environmental rules.

Re: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (2019)- The Fight to protect Fiji reef from Chinese developer
It sounds quite similar to what's happening in Sihanoukville and on the Cambodian coast, but on a smaller scale. The authorities let the Chinese investors do what they want - until there is local outrage and international media cover. Then the local authorities close it down until the (media) stink has passed and no one is paying attention.
IMO this would be a good article to translate into Khmer for Cambodian folks to see that you can fight back against illegal development using local laws. However, the scale of Chinese development in Sihanoukville is off the radar, and I really don't think that local protests will have much effect on the big scheme of things. That said, it is always worth protesting against injustice, even if you don't win. My 2c.
