Your last sentence, exactly.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote:Maybe it stems from using banana leaves for most forms of food packaging until very very recently. Either way, this is pretty common all over SEA/the developing world. What gets me is when touch see signs IN ENGLISH in tourist spots in the countryside (waterfalls/picnic areas) wich say: "PLEASE HELP KEEP OUR COUNTRY CLEAN. DON'T LITTER" Yeah... As if it were foreigners doing the littering. I've thrown empty water bottles at such spots back at their departing owners saying: "Hey, dont forgot your water!". They then sheepishly smile and take (some) of their garbage with them. They are slowly realizing that it's not good, but in their defence most don't have much to compare it to. They've never been abroad and seen how things could be. A slow educational process I suppose... It really boils down to how your mother brought you up I say.
I'll give ya 500 Riel for it...

oh sure, gotta have lil fishies to make the kids giggle and squeal. And so they can tell stories of man eater fishies haha
Actually it just occurred to me that we could JOIN THEM. Someone find that exact location, form a group and JOIN them folks. It'd be good barang/local interaction and probably FUN! Get the research done...maybe dig some latrines? or put in a communal septic tank? I've seen one go in for a 5 room dorm which will house 15 college kids. Ain't much to it. Then keep tabs on it and make it a regular event. Maybe every few months, go visit and make a nice BBQ event of it. FIRST I'd send someone by on a bi weekly basis to see if they just went back to dumping any old fuggin thing back into the water.
of course the minute you get it all cleaned up and the shacks get a bit improved some rich connected dickhead will come along with bulldozers I spose
there might be a REASON they crap up their surroundings?
