Published 24 April 2019

(Phnom Penh Post/ANN) — Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s State Counsellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will begin an official visit to Cambodia on April 30 after attending the One Belt One Road Forum in Beijing, Prime Minister HE announced on Tuesday.

Speaking during a graduation ceremony of more than two thousand students on Koh Pich in the capital, HE said: “Her Excellency Aung San Suu Kyi is scheduled to leave Beijing for Phnom Penh on April 29 and begin her official visit on April 30.”

This will be Suu Kyi’s first visit to Cambodia since she assumed office as Myanmar’s de-facto leader in 2016, although “she and HE regularly meet at regional and international meetings”, according to government spokesperson Phay Siphan.

He stressed the importance of Suu Kyi’s visit for “the continued cooperation between both countries” and highlighted the areas in which they have cooperated in the past.

Specifically, he said HE had protected and promoted the candidacy of Myanmar in Asean. He added that Cambodia has always protected the principle of non-interference in Myanmar’s internal affairs with regards to the country’s issues surrounding the Rohingya. While finally, he said Cambodia and Myanmar face the same prospect of the EU withdrawing their access to the Everything But Arms preferential trade agreement.

Source: Xinhua| 2019-04-26

PHNOM PENH, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi will pay an official visit to Cambodia from April 29 to May 1, said a Cambodian foreign ministry's statement on Friday.

It will be Aung San Suu Kyi's first visit to Cambodia since she took office in 2016.

During her trip, Aung San Suu Kyi will have separate audiences with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk at the royal palace, the statement said.

She will also hold bilateral talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo HE after paying subsequent courtesy calls on Senate President Samdech Say Chhum and National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin, it said.

Aung San Suu Kyi's visit "will further strengthen and expand the bilateral bond of friendship and cooperation in all areas as well as within the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and multilateral framework," the statement said.

At the conclusion of the trip, she will visit the Angkor Archeological Park, a world heritage site, in northwestern Cambodia's Siem Reap province, the statement added.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — Apr 29, 2019
The Associated Press

Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi arrived in Cambodia on Monday for an official visit to strengthen ties between the countries.

The three-day visit is the first since Suu Kyi became her country's head of government in 2016. Cambodia's foreign ministry said she will meet with Prime Minister HE, King Norodom Sihamoni and other Cambodian officials before visiting the famous Angkor Wat archaeological complex.

Suu Kyi arrived from Beijing, where both she and HE attended a forum about China's multibillion-dollar Belt and Road Initiative.

Amazing restraint, given Cambodia's staunch support of Rohingya, Uyghurs, etc

Not really amazing, the government has always advocated non-interference in other sovereign state's affairs. They prefer if it goes both ways too.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

China’s relationship with Asean under scrutiny as Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi makes first visit to Cambodia
The state counsellor’s trip underlines the similarities between two nations isolated from the international community over human rights abuses. Naypyidaw and Phnom Penh are also seen as loyal to Beijing, a position that has hampered the Southeast Asian bloc’s effectiveness.
By South China Morning Post -

Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi made her first diplomatic visit to Cambodia this week, underscoring the similarities between two countries that find themselves increasingly isolated from the international community.

According to the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Suu Kyi arrived in Cambodia on April 29, flying from Beijing where she and Cambodian Prime Minister HE attended the second Belt and Road Forum.

Ear Sophal, author of The Hungry Dragon: How China’s Resources Quest is Reshaping the World, said it is “no coincidence” the leaders are holding bilateral talks directly after meeting in Beijing.

“The deeper ties would be in the form of an axis of Beijing-friendly countries at Asean’s table,” Sophal said. “It can only further empower China. Vietnam and other claimant countries to the South China Sea will feel further isolated.”

Who cares?

Aung San is nothing more than a token symbol for democracy in Myanmar
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
