How does one go about getting hired as a security guard at a prison? Does the Royal Gendarmerie handle the security?

Might be worth coming out of retirement for!

The Prison Service is part of the National Police, Gendarmerie are army. The gendarmerie do deal with prison riots though.

In fairness to the high and mighty squeaky clean original pioneering expat 1.0's, they only kidnapped the local girls for the night and then paid the ransom themselves in the morning. The times they are a changing

Surely no need to for the police to use their own handcuffs when the trio already had two pairs on them? Pragmatism.
