Cambodia now connected to Thailand by rail.
Re: Cambodia now connected to Thailand by rail.
If it's working like the southern line it will just be wonderful
Re: Cambodia now connected to Thailand by rail.
I think its going to be at least the same time as a bus takes, given that trains only go at about 30km/h and seem to be unable to dodge sleeping drunks, truck and cattle causing further delay.

Thailand – Cambodia railway to open this month
08 Apr 2019
ASIA: The 1·3 km cross-border rail link between Arayaprathet in Thailand and Poipot in Cambodia which was completed last year is to be opened on April 22, Thailand’s Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith told the ASEAN PPP Summit in Bangkok on April 4.
Speaking to Railway Gazette International on the sidelines of the event, the minister said an agreement on the procedures for the operation of cross-border rail services would be signed on the same day as the opening ceremony.
The launch of through rail services to Phnom Penh ‘will take some time’, he added, as ‘we need to work on the agreement.’
In his speech to the summit, Termpittayapaisith said the cross-border link could be followed by other routes in the region. He mentioned the Chinese-backed rail project in Laos as being part of a broader plan for more rail connections between Thailand and its neighbours.

Thailand, Cambodia to reopen cross-border trains after 45 years

I love train travel and far prefer it to Bus's
BUT this route :Bangkok- PP will be at least 15 hours vs 1 hour flight for around $75, ( bus is like 12)
Cant see it being used by passengers much but great for merchandise
PLUS; will everyone need disembark for passport control ?

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Far fewer killed in train accidents than bus accident, give me a train over a van with 9 others or a bus that explodes on impact.

Re: Cambodia now connected to Thailand by rail.
I don't know where this "45 years" is coming from, there was no cross border train in 1974. As far as I know the only time there was a train between Aranyaprathet and Poipet was briefly during WW2 when Thailand occupied the western provinces anyway.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 2:58 am

So, as soon as we start running our connecting trains from Phnom Penh with the same precision it is all going to be smooth sailing.
