How much would it cost?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

You are right, using sea cans just limits your creativity and doesn't save money.

They're used as portable offices on mine sites in the Pilbara (was it you that flew over there recently?) and the benefits are strength and portability, but apart from that, they're just all wrong. Using two, with space between them and a sail over all for shade, gives a good shaded area for parking up heavy machinery or for crew space. None of which really applies here.

A lot of cool and creative things have been done with them, I just know and have researched to confirm that using them does not save money, and limits design.

No not me.

there used as portable offices here on construction sites an also there are 2 malls that used containers as shops. 2 stories.

it seems you all have lots of ideas an you tube videos of projects an sure many more can be found
BUT
none take into account the practicality or costs of doing them in Cambodia
plus getting the correct materials

Why not just buy an old train car and convert it? i recall there many many of them parked behind the PP train station ( unless they have been moved)

With enough money, ur only limited by ur imagination

heres a hotel in Essex, MT thta uses train cars as hotel rooms and there are a few others in the states.

Looks like you have not been near the PP train station for 10 or 15 years.

But not only that , train carriages are designed to be moved on wheels , not lifted and put on trucks and moved where as containers have the proper lifting points and won't sag in the middle if lifted and moved.

Anyone using containers must get used to the fact that the container is basically the framework and needs to be lined on the inside and also best to be covered on the outside to get away from that '' container '' look.

beaker wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 12:58 pm Here is a quick video of a house built for $3,050. with the interlocking bricks it was a competition for speed but gives an idea of how they work.

The interlocking bricks go up much faster look much better, no need for concrete exterior cover layer, and are stronger and better insulated. They also come in several colors and can also have different designs like flowers or elephants etc for accents/strips
This is an interesting idea. Anyone with a good idea to build something cheaper can make a lot of money.

Maybe not available in Cambodia, unless you are a brick manufacturer.
They make the interlocking bricks in Phnom Penh
30 x 10 x 10-34 bricks to a pallet $7.
20 x 10 x 10-50 bricks to a pallet $7

I've always wanted to get some old refrigerated containers and use those. They're already insulated, stainless inside. Then basically mound dirt over and around them, grass up the side, maybe some small trees or bushes on the roof.
Also, don't plant coconut trees anywhere near things you don't want smashed, like your roof, moto, head etc.
up to you...
