LATEST UPDATE: Cambodia traffickers lead to Vietnam mega-bust.
Police seize 600 kilos of meth in Vietnam
Tuesday, April 16, 2019, 15:21
Police in central Vietnam have seized more than half a tonne of methamphetamine in one of the largest drug busts in recent years in the country where synthetic drug use is on the rise.
Four people were arrested after police stormed a house in central Nghe An province where they found 600 kilograms (1,300 pounds) of meth, some of it stuffed in speaker boxes.
The meth shipment was "about to be loaded onto trucks... for delivery", according to a report from Cong An Nhan Dan, the official mouthpiece of the Ministry of Public Security, after the bust on Monday.
Dozens of police swarmed a house where the drugs were being stored, occupied by an elderly couple believed to be related to one of the dealers, according Tuoi Tre newspaper.
Police said they were investigating the source of the meth and where it was to be shipped to.
The bust follows a weekend seizure of 30 kilograms of drugs in southern An Giang province, including about 18 kilograms of meth that was stored in packages for tea and vitamin supplements.

Vietnam confiscates over 6 tons of illicit drugs in Q1
Source: Xinhua| 2019-05-04
HANOI, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese police busted many drug trafficking rings in the first quarter of this year, confiscating over 6 tons of illicit drugs, higher than the amount seized last year and tripling that in 2017, Vietnam News Agency reported on Saturday.
Statistics of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security showed that 20 percent of the seized drugs were intended to be supplied to users in Vietnam.
Major cases busted included the nearly 300 kg of methamphetamine confiscated at Cau Treo border gate in central Ha Tinh province in February, and 570 kg of methamphetamine seized in Ho Chi Minh City in March.
In April alone, police grabbed 700 kg of methamphetamine in Quynh Luu district and another 600 kg of the drug in Vinh city of central Nghe An province, along with another 1.1 tons of methamphetamine in Ho Chi Minh City.
Vu Van Hau, deputy director of the ministry's police department for drug crime investigation, said that in the case uncovered in Ho Chi Minh City, drugs had been transported from Thailand through Laos and Cambodia to Vietnam, and they were destined for other countries.
