How harsh should penalties for accidents be?

Post by explorer »

If you read this: newsworthy/girl-student-killed-hit-and- ... 27736.html it seems many people think she should get a tough penalty.

In Cambodia, or anywhere else in the world, how tough should penalties for accidents be compared to penalties for intentional crime?

If it is from intoxication, it should be harsh. Vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

If it is from being young and foolish (careless driving) it needs to be strong enough to send a strong message, and also be enough to cause deep reflection and correction so that this person will not be a further risk to the safety of others.

In the case of carelessness (not intoxication) contrition would go a long way as a measure of whether this person can learn the hard lessons needed to never ever re-offend.

I agree with Lord Baby Jesus, there are differing circumstances for each offense, but doing a runner should have you fitted for a wedding veil in Prey Sar for a long time. Until your rectum (or vagina) is dilated beyond repair.

At the very least the rich girl should be forced to give flowers and pray at the sites of the accident and at the ashes of the girl she killed. She should be forced to do this every year on the day she killed that student.

For life.

Punitive justice. Punish the girl for life.

Rehabilitative justice. Maybe she brings her family and future kids along, too. To show that a rich girl can learn too.

Possibility? Not a chance.

Even in the west, snowflakes would never even dare to violate the rights of killers with such an imposition. Just some meaningless prison sentence usually let go with time served.

I'm in favor of bringing back the chain gangs, where every prisoner wears bright orange clothes with whatever writing on it. Cleaning along riverside and streets where they can be shamed no matter how rich or poor they are will make them think twice in the future,,,, but include a educate program into that punishment.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
