36% of Australia's total exports went to China (in 2017)...add in another 4.8% to Hong Kong so that's a total of 40.8% to one country. Little wonder then that Australian politicians are scared to stand up to the Chinese through fear of upsetting them and threatening exports. But the question has to be asked at a strategic level, how was Australia so stupid (or greedy as the case may be) to allow such a gross imbalance in their exports and thereby set itself up for dependency?
