Kampot gets more clean Water with Japanese aid.

Post by kaputt »

Kampot's Water Distribution improving with Japanese aid.

With Water Supply in Kampot City some times reduced to just a dribble the following news is seen as a relief for many living in Kampot. Many Areas in Kampot, but the entire City in particular cannot draw water from a well because of the brackish quality and sea water seeping into the ground.

Prime Minister HE said, “This water treatment plant will significantly improve people’s health as well as promote economic and social development.”

He said it will also attract more investment to the coastal province.

The plant will bring clean and safe water to people in Kampot and Teuk Chhou district at an average price of 1,400 riel per cubic metre.

Cham Prasidh, the Minister of Industry and Handicrafts, said Kampot can now produce 13,260 cubic metres of water per day, compared to 5,760 cubic metres before the new facility came online. About 14,000 families will receive water produced at the plant.

“The plant is equipped with modern facilities to purify the water and ensure efficiency and quality. It will allow people to drink directly from the faucet,” he said. (for myself the water authority of kampot would have to improve considerably before i would drink it. Khmer on the other side are more immune to waterborn bugs than most westerners but when i look the way these pipes are layed i have my reservations.)

To access its services, residents will need to pay about $100, with a deposit of about $13.
