Nigerian tried for hacking firm’s email
March 6, 2019
Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday tried a Nigerian who allegedly hacked into the World Bridge Company’s email acount and swindled four clients out of more than $110,000 last year.

Judge Keut Saing identified the accused as Nowobodo Kingsley Uchenna, 36, the owner of a restaurant in Phnom Penh.

He said Mr Kingsley Uchenna was charged with fraud and faces up to three years in jail if convicted. He was arrested on October 1 last year.

Judge Saing said that between May 11 and May 20 last year, the accused hacked into World Bride Company’s email account and stole $113,580 sent by four Singaporean businessmen to buy condominiums in Phnom Penh from the company.

During yesterday’s trial, Mr Kingsley Uchenna denied the allegations. He told the court that he was a cook and did not know how to hack into accounts.

A Nigerian email scammer? How shocking.
Once you've read the dictionary, every other book is just a remix.

Conspiracy theory: he's actually a chef and being used as a gmao fall guy for a third party, who stands to gain all the cash.

It seems remarkably convenient that the purported hacker specifically stole just the cash sent by four Singaporeans and nothing else.

Nowobodo Kingsley Uchenna has been sentenced to seven months jail, and to pay back the stolen money to the victims.

Nigerian found guilty of fraud
Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday sentenced a Nigerian businessman to seven month in prison for hacking into the World Bridge Company’s email account to cheat four Singaporean businessmen out of more than $100,000 in the capital last year.

The court also ordered him to pay a total of $113,580 to four victims, who were the plaintiffs in the case.

Judge Keut Saing identified the Nigerian as Nowobodo Kingsley Uchenna, 36, the owner of a restaurant in Phnom Penh.

He said Mr Uchenna was charged with fraud and was arrested by internal security police from the Interior Ministry in October.

“Although the accused had denied that he hacked the company’s account to steal money from the victims, he did not provide any evidence to prove his innocence,” Judge Saing said.

“Therefore, the court decided to convict and sentence him to seven months in prison and ordered him to pay $113,580 to the plaintiffs.”

Khieu Vang, a representative of the four Singaporean businessmen and also the lawyer for World Bridge Company, said that Mr Uchenna belonged to a group of cyber criminals hiding and operating in the Kingdom.

If that's the standard for determining a guilty verdict, we're all in trouble.
