Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Banteay Meanchey: The series of deadly road accidents continues today with a report of two teenagers killed on a motorbike at 3:50 am on March 29, 2019. The accident occurred at an intersection on National Road 56A Ponchar Commune, Svay Chek District, Banteay Meanchey Province, when two local seventeen year olds died after a collision with a Camry car.
First report says that the two on the motorcycle were at fault for not paying due attention. They don't appear to have been wearing helmets, and are reported to have died more or less instantly when they hit the road.

Following the accident, the Camry crashed to a halt hitting a roadside stall, and the driver ran away from the scene.
The bodies of the two teenagers were taken away by their families for funeral rites.

Let's see. They were out monitoring nocturnal birdlife for WWF ?
Or they were out getting wrecked with their mates, which is why they didn't notice the Camry headlights on the road ? They might have been out stealing, or just getting trashed. Remember all the crazy shit we did at 17 ?

Sad end for two kids and their families anyway. There are so many stories like this that most of the time they hardly make the news. Happens everywhere, but Cambodian roads at night are really something else.

Very sad end for the two youngster's, and mostly saddening for their grieving families.
Remember all the crazy shit we did at 17 ? I understand what your saying here, but speculation never the less. Considering the country we reside in, most people would be getting out of bed and working a few hours later. Or it would be plausible to be the right time to go fishing.
But also, who, and what was the car driver doing at that time? Oh yes he was out for a little running exercise. Because of this mentality "cowardness" with no regard for other road users, the roads day or night are never safe.
How many expats are up and awake at this time, and also to the very early hours due to the coolness of the dark hours, or while your Khmer neighbours sleep there is a better Wi-Fi connection. Too busy and hot in the day. Also it doesn't help with daily power cuts.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
