Dutch Expat 'Blacklisted' from Vietnam After 13 Years, So Stuck in Cambodia in the Meantime

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I have a residence card but there are heaps of foreigners that do visa runs; he must have pissed someone off.
Being blacklisted with no warning or explanation is a bit harsh?
Very and I am thinking that there is a little more to the story.... If they blacklisted everyone doing visa runs, there would be no English teachers left.
So true. Almost everyone lives on 3-month visas. Largely because it's a cheaper route. The 6-month and 12-month (business) visas are either not being given out or are outrageously expensive. The temp residence card is running $1600US for a 2-year this year. Was $980 last fall, double what it was earlier in 2018.

Which begs the question - why the fuck are they doing this? Do they only want short term visitors who will (hopefully) spend more dough on a shorter stay and fuck the English teachers (along with many others)?

I dont know, but part of the problem is they think Westerns are all very wealthy, so they can charge them ridiculous amounts of money.

It's probably because they can and can make money doing so. It's the same reason the 1 year tourist visa for Americans doesn't readily state you have to leave the country every 3 months to keep your visa valid, so when you inevitably overstay your visa, you get blacklisted and fleeced for a few thousand dollars in order to be let back into the country.

Viets can be dodgy as shit about these things.

Never had an issue as I have always had a resident card when working in Vietnam. Easy-peasy.
