The one time I got lumped with the front passenger seat, we ran over a street dog at 80km/h. Driver was beeping his horn but the dog wandered right in our path without even looking. There was no chance to stop or avoid it.

Yeah, slowing down is never considered an option...

This was the main reason I bought a car after my terrifying trip to SIhanoukville the first week I was here. I had to tell the driver to stop as I was physically sick. He was nuts.
Also, is it normal now to have a passenger on the drivers seat and the driver sitting next to them steeering and doing the pedals! Fucking crazy.

By the time the dog decided to walk onto the road in front of us there was no chance of stopping without hitting it, as I said.Tarndog wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 5:23 amYeah, slowing down is never considered an option...The one time I got lumped with the front passenger seat, we ran over a street dog at 80km/h. You must walk in traffic to cross the road - Cambodian proverb

I made a few rules for me
- if the GF is late and we have to drive into the night, she can go alone to that wedding etc.
- if the driver drives way to fast I tell him one time to slow down, then I tell it for a second time and then I leave the car.
Always other cars going the same way or returning to PP
Wasn't necessary until now but I see it coming.
Most of the drivers drive quite ok though.

That's horrible. A guy I worked with experienced the same but with a toddler. A reason some experienced foreigners do not prefer a front seat.....timmydownawell wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 1:40 pmBy the time the dog decided to walk onto the road in front of us there was no chance of stopping without hitting it, as I said.Tarndog wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 5:23 amYeah, slowing down is never considered an option...The one time I got lumped with the front passenger seat, we ran over a street dog at 80km/h. Re: Dutch Couple Seriously injured in Lexus Crash in Kampong Thom
We once took a driver from Sihanoukviille to PP who we had used before and seemed safe. We had friends from the UK with us so splitting a ticket seemed sensible. We left in the afternoon so we thought we had plenty of time. However, it soon became apparent that the driver was determined to do one more trip back to Sihanoukviille that day and drove like a man possessed from the second we left the town. It culminated in him clipping a van he was overtaking and is all leaving the car. We waited for s coach that day and never took another taxi again ever. Go for the more expensive coaches or minivans and they seem the safest bet. Drivers in the Kingdom are wreckless when they smell money.
