I really hate the way people use words like 'creepy' to insinuate something sinister. It's such a judgmental way of speaking.

To me, 'creepy' is when someone acts in a way that displays ulterior motives that are morally apprehensive which have the potential to cause harm to others who don't or can't consent to those motives. Whatever those motives may be.

We've all lived different lives with different life experiences which have resulted in different ways of thinking, acting, observing and feeling. Calling, or insinuating that someone is 'creepy' simply because they sit alone outside a bar is just silly.

I often sit alone in coffee shops while I'm working on my laptop. I do it because I find it easier and more productive than working from home. If I worked fully from home, alone, I probably couldn't get through a couple of hours without firing up some porn and having a quick 'thomas the tank'. There's too many distractions when working at home alone. As I'm sure anyone who's ever tried it will testify.

Does that make me 'creepy'? No. It makes me a normal, healthy guy who's aware of his natural behavior, realizes how unproductive it is, and takes steps to minimize the impact it might have on his work.

To insinuate that someone is 'creepy' simply because they sit alone outside bars is (a) trying to pretend that they're somehow morally superior to them - or/and (b) insinuating that what they might be up to doesn't involve consenting adults who are fully aware of any given situation.

Many people, especially men, and especially older men with more life experience, enjoy their own company. Maybe they've had a shit time of it and simply prefer their own company. Maybe they've been through a disastrous divorce that's means they're left devoid of any trust in humanity. There are a million reasons why a man, especially a man, given the current PC climate, might decide that life is best enjoyed alone, sitting at a bar, watching the world go by.

To insinuate that there's something 'creepy' about it displays a complete lack of maturity, compassion and understanding towards people who just so happen to have not lived a similar life to yours.
