Man Dies as Homemade Gemstone Pit Collapses, Ratanakiri
Ratanakiri, Cambodia News: A 58-year-old gemstone miner, Ting Phel, died after the pit collapsed at 02:30 pm, on March 3, 2019, in village 1, Borkeo district, Ratanakiri.
Before the incident, the victim descended alone into a 10 meters deep gemstone mine; 30 minutes later, catastrophe struck as the pit collapsed on him. The people tried to dig the soil to save the victim, but he was already dead.
After the incident, the police went to the scene to examine the body and found that the victim had dig the pit 10 meters deep, but there was no solid structure in place, and there were many pits close to each other that caused the tunnel to collapse.
The body was delivered to the victim's family for funeral preparation.
