Pay is bong with a short o sound.

Listen to whether it is a short o sound or a long o sound. You can also tell by the situation. She is probably saying it when it is time to pay.
Really? i think you have a different dictionary to me!
Bong is what normakl khmer call each other.
if you are old/higher ranking you call them Oun
so a youn person would say Bong ket Loi, and older person usually Oun Ket Loi. Fetch the bill

There are two different words. You can tell by whether it is a short o sound or a long o sound.

bɑŋ is pay,

Bong, translated usually as brother, or older brother, bong srey being older sister, is someone generally higher age than you, but not as old as your dad, or grand parents or a government official, or the king. Oun is someone you love, someone younger than you but older than yours or someone else's children, post-pubescent. Someone of lower status is usually nek if you are indifferent towards them or if they are just a random person. Look is a random person you're polite to, better than nek. You can also call your social peers aing but certainly in Southern Cambodia that's not massively popular but it was in my Cambodian book.

So it could translate as mr handsome rather than something bad.

That is how i would take the meaning.

The o (short or long) in bong is hardly recognizable, don't focus on that. The word coming is next is much more recognizable.

If she says: bong luy (luy has a u sounding like in to look) she means to pay.

If she says bong lowy (lowy has a long oo sound as in open and the y is pronounced as in read) then she means 'bong is handsome'.

However, if she sits with a non fluent foreigner I think she will use 'songhaa'to indicate your handsomeness instead, which is more common. So my bet is she is asking you to pay.

Either case, it's a bit weird that she would have to say it all the time!

In one case, she is really insisting over and over that this is a good guy... So it could be because they worry for her and she reassures them, or you know may they plan on doing something nasty and she resit! :D

In the second case, that's a lot a money talk... it could be because she is saying how you pay for stuff, or maybe they are repeatedly asking if you are paying her, or ask her money to pay for stuff thinking that because she is with you she floats! :)

From there,
Option 1 is asking her what they talk about
Option 2 is trying to be more sensitive to the context/situation and get a feel of how people are emotionally related when that comes out.
Option 3 is trying to grasp a couple more words around it!

That said, maybe she once talk about money, once talk about you being a good guy, and another time is was something else that remotely sounded like the same words.
