what venue did you get a big mug for a dollar? a good price if you didRavensnest wrote: ↑Thu Feb 07, 2019 11:59 amWe def go to different places. I paid Ppawn last night for a big mug... I meant to say in PPJamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 11:04 amGardiguy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 1:47 amFor the most part, when you are comparing beer prices you would do it with domestic beer prices, not imports. Also, Beer Economics is a real thing when done properly and not done by some guy sitting in a gogo bar at 1 am. I can get Tiger draft in PP for....$1...a pint! Any time of day, wow!!Jamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 12:53 ameven thats not true anymore, was drinking pints of Tiger in a walking street agogo (Atlantis) tonight for less than $3... a pint!phuketrichard wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 9:44 pm
the only things i find cheaper in Cambodia over Thailand is Drinking alcohol,( beer, spirits, wine), smoking cigs, some western food items in the supermarkets and some Barang food in cheaper restaurants
everything else is more
i rarely pay more than $2-3 for a bottle of San Miguel light ($3.50-4 in PP) anywhere here
http://www.oxfordscholarship.com/view/1 ... 0199693801
doesnt matter which way you look at it, Cambodia isnt as cheap as it used to be, especially on a night out now
Domestic draft in Pattaya is 50 Baht/$1.60, had a few last night, not much different to the average $1.50 in PP
but you probably mean to say, i dont know the rare one (or two) places you can get a big mug on the cheap, the average price in PP now for a small mug of beer is $1.50 after 7pm

Yup, post a stupid meme instead of addressing what I said. GJ
Bottle of San Miguel light,
Thailand i pay between 50-80 baht ($1.60-$2.50) in PP i pay $3.50-$4
Draft Beer
Thailand = 45-69b ($1.40-$2.20) in PP = 75c-$2
Vodka/mixer
Thailand = 80-120b ($2.50-$3.85) in PP = $3-$4.50
Cider
Thailand = 150-180b ($4.80-$5.75) in PP = $3-4
Shots
Thailand = 80-100b ($2.50-$3.25) in PP = $2.50-$3.50
Ladydrinks
Thailand = 100-120 ($3.20-$3.85) in PP = $3.50-$4
i dont drink wine in Thailand but i doubt i could get it for $2 like i can in some venues in Cambodia, Cider is also far cheaper in Cambodia due to it not being imported which is good

That depends on what type of investment you are talking about.xandreu wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 9:36 pm I was once told by a very wealthy investor / economist (friend of a friend) that if you want to gauge whether a city/country is worth invesing in, don't bother looking at market forecasts, don't waste your time reading financial papers, forget looking for other people's opinions online, simple go there, get yourself a good vantage point and look at the amount of construction going on. How many cranes can you see? (he was using London as an example - I know they largely seem to get by without cranes here, but the principle is the same)
This will tell you all you need to know about the direction a country is going in and whether it's worth investing in. If you think it's worth investing in, so do many other people.
....
If you mean the cambodian stock market, even if Cambodian management could be trusted, it might be difficult to trade.
Most Cambodian finances may have a very large fat thing from China sitting on them. Remember what the Chinese did in Thailand with "Zero Dollar Tours"?
Most of the cranes are being paid for by Chinese or the buildings will be bought up by Chinese.
Reading financial news may help to give a bird's eye view, for example for macro economic trends. Are the Cambodians going to raise or lower the world prices of sugar, coffee, palm oil...?
The good thing about the cranes is that they are glutting the market for rental property which will keep rents down for expats.
The one opportunity I see for white expats is in restaurants and clubs.

Not retired, but something I find expensive in Pp is the absence of pleasant public spaces with shade. Which means paying to be somewhere- a bar, cafe or- the cheapest option- buying a 1000r water or nescafe and sitting outside a minimart. Bangkok by contrast has great parks, can sit under a tree for hours and read a book.

One thing I don't understand is why people will sit in bars and drink all day and pay double the price of beer cans they can buy elsewhere and anywhere for .50 cents each and even less when you buy 6 or more. I always clear my hotel bar fridge and fill my own, and also would rather walk around and get the beer as I wish and when I wish.The extra you are paying for at the bar is the chair rental; is it worth it?

I'm not one that drinks often nor goes out to restuarants or bars often maybe 2 or 3 times per month. But when I do I enjoy one or two beers. We also don't go and eat around riverside. So perhaps why my findings and yours differ...
Still here, in country...

Re: Cambodia is the Cheapest place to retire...
Phuket only comes out a little bit higher than Phnom PenhNumbeo has reported the list of cities in ASEAN with the highest cost of living in 2019 on January of the year. Numbeo is the largest database with data contributed from citizens of the world. Numbeo concludes their cost of living information based on housing prices, health care database, average food costs, and more. The website currently has 4,973,632 prices in 8,812 cities from all over the world.
Thailand is known for its cheap food and cheap living expenses, but today this is not so true in Bangkok. The average cost of living for one person in Bangkok is 21,000 THB, the cost of housing or rent is not included in this number. For a family of 4 people living in Bangkok, the average is at 75,800 THB, this number does not include rent or housing costs.
while Pattaya,Chiang mai come out cheaper
