yeh, and its hard to find coffee places that also sell proper desserts like cake. I like Brown, and a Cappuccino and a nice piece of cheesecake (which is small) is prob at least 20% more than at 'home' Also full of Khmer.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 11:49 pmHeck, Luigi’s was full of Khmer high school kids and university types. Spoke perfect English with a proper American accent. Flipped back and forth between speaking English and Khmer amongst themselves. Food starts around $10 and goes up. Must have lots of rich mommies and daddies giving them expensive educations and pocket money.RickyBobby wrote:I like Pizza Company but have learned the hard way. Its always full and popular with the locals. How can so many of them afford to dine there? Its expensive I find for common fare.

You’ve studied genetics but u call rice a vegetablecptrelentless wrote: ↑Thu Feb 07, 2019 12:03 am Food is just ludicrously expensive in Cambodia for what it is. Any meat other than pork, any vegetable other than rice. Oh or that fucking pond weed they eat. War's over people, don't need to eat that any more.

A jew from new york told me joma has better cheesecake than anything he had at home.
I like a danish and a coffee at EK it is great, not packed like Brown and certainly not more expensive than in my "home".

Isn’t the correct comparison between Bangkok with PP. If you are comparing a regional town in Thailand then you should probably compare it with Siem Reap or Battambang. Comparing a regional town with the most expensive place in Cambodia doesn’t make much sense to me.Anthony's Weiner wrote:I live in a village 10 km from Sisaket, Thailand. My last home in North America was in Calgary , Canada. The website Mumbeo compares the cost of living city vs city. Sisaket is roughly 60% cheaper than Calgary. Some line items, rent and inexpensive restaurants are 80 and 90 % cheaper while cheese and imported beer and wine cost as much as %100 more in Thailand. Fortunately I can drink Hong Thong and soda. Mumbeo collects data on about 80 line items from a quart of milk to a pair of levis 501 jeans.
Ubon Ratchathani has an airport, 3 universities and an equal number of hospitals. According to Mumbeo the cost of living comparison between Ubon and P.P is Rent Prices in Phnom Penh are 126.83% higher than in Ubon Ratchathani, Restaurant Prices in Phnom Penh are 67.43% higher than in Ubon Ratchathani. Of the 80 indices only imported beer, liquor and cheese are cheaper in Cambodia.
I dare say that no only provincial Thailand cheaper than Cambodia the quality of life is better. Sisaket has a Thai Premier League football team, 2 universities and 2 hospitals. Ubon ( 60 km away ) has the department stores and airport. I can be in BKK 2 hours after leaving my house and if I have the foresight to book three weeks in advance, I can fly for $30.
If you compare a provincial town in Cambodia with PP then you’ll probably find that many things (rent, food etc.) are cheaper.

Rule out SHV for comparisons of course, due to the Chinese investment tsunami driving accommodation prices sky high.khmerhamster wrote: ↑Thu Feb 07, 2019 11:27 amIsn’t the correct comparison between Bangkok with PP. Kampot accommodation up ~30% from 18 months ago (imo), due to anticipation of Chinese investment and influx of SHV refos.
Maybe Siem Reap is competitive ? Way too hot up there for me.

Re: Cambodia is the Cheapest place to retire...
We def go to different places. I paid Ppawn last night for a big mug... I meant to say in PPJamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 11:04 amGardiguy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 1:47 amFor the most part, when you are comparing beer prices you would do it with domestic beer prices, not imports. Also, Beer Economics is a real thing when done properly and not done by some guy sitting in a gogo bar at 1 am. I can get Tiger draft in PP for....$1...a pint! Any time of day, wow!!Jamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 12:53 ameven thats not true anymore, was drinking pints of Tiger in a walking street agogo (Atlantis) tonight for less than $3... a pint!phuketrichard wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 9:44 pmthe only things i find cheaper in Cambodia over Thailand is Drinking alcohol,( beer, spirits, wine), smoking cigs, some western food items in the supermarkets and some Barang food in cheaper restaurantswhiteribbon wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 9:33 pm OK the only thing that's expensive is electric bills and car ownership. All the rest is cheaper in my experience. Prove me wrong?
Edit: just read the article again... a bottle of sparkling wine for $25?! You can have a bottle of great Prosecco for $12 in every market in Cambodia, so their figures are probably greatly (bigly) inflated.
everything else is more
i rarely pay more than $2-3 for a bottle of San Miguel light ($3.50-4 in PP) anywhere here

doesnt matter which way you look at it, Cambodia isnt as cheap as it used to be, especially on a night out now
Domestic draft in Pattaya is 50 Baht/$1.60, had a few last night, not much different to the average $1.50 in PP
Still here, in country...

Re: Cambodia is the Cheapest place to retire...
it is in the south east corner of Thailand, next to Laos and above Cambodia. Valid point on my comparing Ubon to PP. But then only a complete fuck up would suggest one country is less expensive or more expensive than another as prices vary across countries as well. Your lack of an inquisitive mind would preclude you from using the site I suggested and make your own comparison.
Do you feel that BKK vs PP would be valid comparison? one being a mega city and the other a home for alcoholic has beens? Perhaps Pattaya vs SHK would be more your interest? I offered a site that compares 80 or so items and the cost of each to the discussion. You offered SFA. Anlong Veng unfortunately is not on the list of cities were information is collected on. Incidentally if you were to venture 13 km up the road from Anlong Veng you would get to Sisaket Province and from there Ubon is a hop, skip and a jump.
As alcohol and beer are markedly cheaper in Cambodia than Thailand there really isn t much need for you to have much interest in the thread is there? A drunken stupor is cheaper in Cambodia and that is all that matters for some.
Re: Cambodia is the Cheapest place to retire...
Yeah Bangkok is a cosmopolitan megacity and PP only for alcoholics.
I barely drink any alcohol, so what am I doing here.
Maybe I should try Ubon whatever but only if the air is better than bangkok.
Couldn't barely breath there.
Have fun in your cheap cosmopolitan city.
