How to apply for a UK visa in Cambodia, do they also have that nonsense whereby you have to mail the passport to the UK if you want to apply online? The wife has Schengen residency so could in theory get an UK visa for free and easily, but there's no way we're entrusting her passport to the mail service anywhere.

You have to hand it over to the Aussies in Phnom Penh, it goes out via them. Hong Kong was the closest place they did visas, it may just be Liverpool now.

Maybe I misunderstood your intended meaning but possession of any schengen visa/rights (other than being an EU passport holder) doesn't give any rights for UK entry as it is outside of the schengen zone. Similarly would be surprised if they waived the fee due to possession of a schengen visa. Did you mean she has Eu residency in a schengen country?

Actually they ask for the same documents every time but they will want to see their old visa, too. As you're not British or married to them you're going to have to show a lot of dough in the bank for the trip, you have three people to fund for six months. It's not going to take you a couple of weeks it'll take up to six weeks assuming they are happy with your documents and the proof of your relationship. They quite happily drag it out for months as Cambodia is a red flag country. How long are you in Germany? Can she prove she has a job in Cambodia? If you don't have rock solid evidence she's going back with her kid after the holiday you ain't getting in.

I'm British and my partner and daughter travelled with me to the UK before for 2 weeks. All clear with the visa application. They called her from Bangkok to ask for a letter of approval from the father to take her to the UK. He did that and the visa approved...
However, German Embassy seems a different kettle of fish. They have a copy of the old UK visa, they have a little money but day to day just about everything is paid for (flights, hotels etc). Germany will be 13 days stop. She has a stable job and the kid is at an international school in Siem Reap (yep, that doesn't mean a lot but sounds better than it is). They asked why the father didn't come to the interview? Well, because they broke up 9.5 years old and she has a letter from the Cambodian court giving her authority for her daughter....still they wanted the fathers passport copy and didn't want to do other checks until that is received and the interview started again...
