Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Minivan Catches Fire on The Way to Steung Treng

Steung Treng, Cambodia News: On February 05, 2019, at 10 am, a passenger minivan caught on fire as it was driving along the national road 7, Sangkat Samaky, Steung Treng. The driver was identified as Kim Thom, 44-years-old.
The van was completely burned out, as there were no firetrucks in the area to put out the fire. Fortunately nobody was injured.
Vehicles burning up on the Cambodian roadsides seems to be a thing of late. On CEO News in the past week:

As long as no one was hurt then all I have to say is good riddance.
Blocking the right lane on major busy roads to wait for potential passengers, driving like a mental hospital escapee on meth blasting the horn every 0.3 seconds, pulling out into the flow of traffic with utter disregard for others.
Wish they'd all burn up.

The question is though, why do cars, vans, buses just suddenly catch on fire?

I don't recall this back in the home country.

Saw it quite a few times in my homecountry. There is gasoline, oil and some very hot parts in an engine, so fire is always possible.
Quite shocked by the state the road is in.

Exactly right, I am waiting for one of the roadside fueling stands with the gasoline in bottles to burn, that fire will really be something.
