In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Definitely a loaded question.
Richard, you'll need to forgive SC. He's only been in the country for 4 or 5 months, so not really an expat yet!
With the changing demographics of the Cambodian expat over the years, I would think that any forum having a regional information section would be 'a given'.
There are numerous expats nowadays that travel to neighboring countries regularly, whether it be work-related or leisure or any other reason. I, for one, would like various information about our neighbors available here rather than having to go looking for it, should the need arise.

Actually, not. There's obviously a forum niche that's not being met by dedicated Thai forums, so why not? As stated, there's action on both forums in the Thai threads...Username Taken wrote:Definitely a loaded question.

Ok, I suggest more regional content which would cater to both expat and visitors. Both fora are very much centred on PP - normal, I guess that's where the majority of expats live and work - but I really think that there is interest in what goes on elsewhere in Cambodia.(And this will develop as PP becomes more of a big city.) I think that people would like to know things like where's the nightlife in Battambang, working on a pepper farm in Kampot, possibilities for opening a restaurant in Kampong Cham etc.phuketrichard wrote:Soi Dog wrote:Not really. In terms of new posts they have been giving us a right good kicking since the new regime took over. Not quality, in my opinion, but quantity (although we need to up our game with higher quality content too). And they blow us out of the water with page views, as you would expect with a 10 year-old, well-establish forum vs. a 4 month-old newcomer. But it's interesting to see them on the back-foot in terms of innovation. They (or their posters who made their new forum section suggestions) look to CEO for new ideas.frank lee bent wrote:My random observation is that there are hardly any new posts over there over the past 3 weeks coz all the posters are here.
we own all your base.
what innovations?BULLSHIT."Look to CEO for new ideas"
teak door has a separate section for Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Burma-Vietnam-Nepal-, laos & Cambodia, ( GT riders has a laos, Burma, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia & Malaysia) and even Thai visa has a Cambodia/ Burma section
IN my eyes there is just so much u can do with Cambodia ( which is really only Phnom Phen an Siem Rep with shv thrown in every month or so) and 2 forums covering the same ground is really pushing it
so its just common sense to open sections to other countries.
K44 has had a "not Cambodia" section forever PLUS a "travel" subsection.
without the 2 of us on CEO, there would not be a thai subsection or if there was it would be empty
look at how many threads are the same on both forums by the same posters.
To SURVIVE BOTH forums will need to expand an think outside the box, so far i don't see either forum doing that
Also agree that there is a market for an exchange of information between SEA expats/travelers about what is going on where they live or visit. Quite a lot of people seem to move from one SEAn country to another. So, yeah, also definitely widen the Thai thread to SEA to attract more contributors.

Re: If You Have Something Random to Say About K440, Put It H
LoL, I can't believe what I've seen over there since Scobie has taken full charge of things on K440.
As much as many people hated the way KiR ran K440, he WAS K440. Love him or hate him.
Scobie just can't possibly carry K440 to victory. He is too business minded with it and has fully lost the edginess that it used to have. The members and mods seem to be realizing they're just pawns in his game and he has no real interest in leading a Cambodian based expat forum.
You regularly see the old-timers blowing up over there and venting their frustrations over the new Cambodia Parents Network rules and regulations that they ask have to abide by now in Scobie's attempt to turn it into a money making machine, LoL. He bought himself a time consuming hobby, nothing more. I hope he realizes that sooner than later.
I honestly think he'll be less popular than KiR in no time at all, based on the way he operates. No respect for people's privacy, etc.
Buyer's remorse seems to be setting in with him now.
Also, poor Gavin seems bored to tears over there. I even witnessed him deleting the numerous words "fuck" out of a post! Ha! I almost died laughing thinking what Gavin was going through! That's rough! He would have keeled over from boredom this week if it hadn't been for a thread about inviting bar girls to a wedding and an obvious troll that said they were looking for a girl named "Srey" or something similar in Golden Sorya Mall.
The only one that seems to have lucked out over there is PlayBoy, who is now on a Rank changing mission, which is all he wants, LoL!
I agree that they have had a higher post count this week, but it's been stale for the most part.
I think Scobie will soon realize that although KiR seems to have been hated as of late, he carried the site all by himself. Scobie can't do that.
I believe Scobie had 2 goals when he bought K440:
1) To turn it into a money making machine, regardless of what any of the members cared for.
2) He had the money to buy it, and he couldn't resist all the fame/prestige he thought owning it would bring.
He's starting to realize that nobody gives any more fucks about him, now that he owns it.
It's super funny because many people first complained that CEO was too PC/friendly, but now K440 is G-Rated, bland and CPN friendly, LoL. The irony now, LoL.
Yes, we've been a little slow this past week too, but we really appreciate everyone's effort to step it up, like Richard and Soi Dog who have really thought of cool thread ideas, and others. Can't thank you all enough!
We've also been getting a fair amount of new people finding CEO, so that's pretty good too!
The Dragon and I have a lot of random tweaks and changes we've discussed and will implement, and a lot of it is ideas we've gotten from all you guys that have been helpful and offered your feedback, good and bad. That's why we really do like getting any and all feedback from everyone, not just the pats on the back.
And it's flattering when Scobie copies us! He knows we're still onto something good and he's gonna lose everything over there if he doesn't shape up. It's really funny because I remember a conversation with him before CEO was really popular and he was calling us crazy for not letting people flame newbies for a certain number of posts, and now he's realizing that he was wrong, LoL.
Anyways, CEO is a lot of fun for many of us and growing! If I told you how many threads I'm behind in reading, you'd laugh at me.
And I apologize to all that I've been too busy lately to post a lot and get more involved, but jumping around the planet and changing jobs has gotten a lot of my attention this past month! Things are already falling into autopilot here, so I now have a lot more free time to fuck around online again! WooHoo!
So, if Scobie can ever be as dedicated as KiR was, and without his faults, he "can" turn it around over there, but I feel it's unlikely. Good or bad, K440 has lost their 11+ year leader and was bought out by a poster that has never been popular and it seems the posters are waking up to this realization now. Even the mods don't seem as enthusiastic for Scobie as they were before. Can't blame them.

too funny and accurate.
Re: If You Have Something Random to Say About K440, Put It H
CEO did have the first specific Thailand section and Cambodian Culture section, both of which 440 copied. They will probably copy the adult-oriented section and the say-anything assinie type section or gladiator section or whatever they will call it and maybe even try a Ladies Only section over there too. Those are CEO innovations, even though not all of them have attracted much readership so far. Who cares what Teak Door has? This thread is about the 2 forum rivalry.phuketrichard wrote: To SURVIVE BOTH forums will need to expand an think outside the box, so far i don't see either forum doing that

LoL. Even Rebo was over there making fun of Scobie for blatantly copying our sections. Again, we're flattered!Soi Dog wrote:CEO did have the first specific Thailand section and Cambodian Culture section, both of which 440 copied. In the long run, I do think we'll outperform Scobie's "new" Khmer440.
He's been on a few power trips now that he's the big boss over there, and I think people will start seeing right through his crap. He won't be able to shake his ego.
The excitement of a new owner is gone, and he's yet to WoW anyone.
