I hear the sound, of distant drums

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

And now we read that the EU (following pressure from Italy) is imposing an import duty, for 3 years, on rice from Cambodia and Myanmar.
That proposed measure is to protect the rice growing countries in southern Europe:

"The Commission opened an investigation into rice imports from the two countries in March following a complaint by Italy.
it found that a significant surge in imports had caused economic damage to the rice sector in Europe. Rice grows in eight southern European countries from Portugal to Bulgaria."

"EU farming group Copa-Cogeca says that the two countries’ exports to the European Union of longer-grained Indica rice have increased from 9,000 tonnes in 2012 to 360,000 tonnes in 2017, resulting in a collapse of rice prices." https://www.reuters.com/article/us-eu-t ... SKBN1O32M6

Again he should think before he makes these stupid statements. Even his big brother must cringe at times. =@
