Re: Walking the Riverside
Ah, that might be a plausible explanation. I walk along there frequently for exercise but can't recall seeing any violence - I didn't go there when the state sanctioned stuff was happening, only after the fact.LTO wrote:Wonder what that was all about.Based on the machete, maybe gangbangers? There have been a couple/few early evening gang dust-ups in that area, sometimes involving long blades of some sort.Joker Poker wrote:When you walk along the river you are never quite sure what you are going to see, there always seems to be something to that grabs your attention - today didn't disappoint.
I was near the play equipment section when a few motos zoomed up and stopped near the wall. Suddenly there was the cracking sound of someone getting tazed, so I headed closer for a better look. The guys that came on the motos were plain clothes cops and they were tazering and kicking the shit out of one guy. This guy and another then ran down to the water and jumped in. The cops followed them down the river about 50 meters south and then got them.
A cop then started searching through stuff stashed in front of the wall just slightly north of where the tazed guy was originally sitting, and found a machete that was wrapped in an old krama. Anyway, they took one of the guys over to a waiting police truck. Dunno what he'd done but it looks like he was in deep shit.
There are glue sniffers and hobo looking types around, a few taxi girls and boys most evenings but I've never got the impression of any gang rivalry or the like. I'll keep an eye out.

Re: Walking the Riverside
As I've mentioned before, there is always something interesting to see when you walk the riverside, well tonight didn't disappoint...
I was heading north just near Costa Coffee about an hour and a half ago, when I heard the familiar crunching of motos. Looked around and 3 motos had hit the deck. Never seen a triple before. Just as I was heading over to see if anyone needed a hand there was the same crunch further up the road so I headed up that way.
Right in front of Phnom Penh India it appeared that a tuk tuk had run into a bunch of parked motos. It was hard to tell because of the rapidly growing crowd of gawkers. Never heard two consecutive moto related crashes before. This was only the beginning.
I headed up to the exercise equipment and worked out for about 20 minutes and then headed northwards. There was a crowd gathered diagonally opposite La Croisette so I headed close to the road for a look and there was a car being photographed by someone and a badly smashed moto lying on the road. The car seemed fine to me.
I headed north again. Outside the UCare Pharmacy there was another crowd of gawkers, so of course, I joined them. Here there was a badly smashed up silver car. Major front end damage and all the windows smashed. Seemed a bit odd about the windows, as they appeared to have been smashed inwards.
Headed up to Titanic and then headed south and figured I would try to piece together the story. I was thinking a drunk moron was probably to blame for all four incidents.
I spoke to a lady by the smashed car in front of the pharmacy. She said that 3 people had died and indeed the car was involved in all four incidents. Next I spoke to two bar girls that I knew who were outside La Croisette. They told me that two people had died and that the angry crowd had smashed up the car by the pharmacy.
So, it seems that a moron has caused 4 accidents with multiple vehicles, can't rule out pedestrians either I guess, and there is a strong likelihood that there have been fatalities.
Should make the news or the paper I should think.
