Could we have the Gavin Mac that wrote the infamous “7 Reasons.... “ articles back. This one seems to have lost his way.

Whenever there's a story about female tourists or expats on here or on the other forum, women like Ellise Matthews, or the two Filipina teachers, or a French woman who gets her handbag stolen, etc. there are comments here along the lines of "she's a whore" "stupid bitch," "fat cow," "I'd fuck her" "I wouldn't fuck her," etc.

And there are plenty of photos and comments here about the Chinese, and how their presence in Cambodia is ruining the place. And comments about the Nigerians getting raided and rounded up for overstay from time to time.
I can kind of see your point here. But the photos and comments regarding the Chinese and Nigerians I think are more generalizations and are usually made on this forum in tandem with negative news reports.

I'm sure if your horse-cocked pensioner ended up in the pages of Kohsantepheap Daily for over staying his visa, we'd all be mocking him and his third leg, mercilessly.

I'd imagine that what most people find distasteful is the fact that you or whoever it is, is going out of their way and taking photos of men who haven't done anything other than offend your sense of riverside decorum.

For the most part, they are old men sunning themselves. Nothing more. They don't look homeless, drunk or to be bothering anyone with their presence.

So your poking fun may come across as mean spirited.

Go to the sea sides of Florida during the winter and you'll see flocks of wrinkly old jews that look quite similar to your photos.

These old riverside codgers didn't make their presence known via Facebook like Ellise Matthews or by coming to the attention of competent authorities, they're just innocently enjoying their day. And here you are dragging them into the interwebz strictly for mocking purposes.

A bit adolescent, no?

As far as the Filipina teachers story comment, that was PIEMAN, don't lump us all in with that guy.

You make a fair point, but I can't agree that the main difference in how the mockery is received relates to the newsworthiness or fault of the subject of the mockery. There are plenty of negative comments tossed around here towards innocent but stupidly dressed fat backpacker chicks in sports bras and elephants pants who get their handbags stolen. And a lot of the negativity directed towards the Chinese is not the direct result of a Chinese guy driving drunk and crashing his Lexus into a road divider on Monivong. It's just general whining about their presence and sheer numbers.

If someone posts a screenshot here from Kampot Noticeboard saying "I had to flee Sihanoukville because the invading Chinese have jacked up all the rental prices," CEO posters will be sympathetic and think this is "Chinese invasion" is a fair subject for discussion.

If I post a screenshot from Kampot Noticeboard saying "Couldn't get a seat in a Kampot restaurant because all the fifty cent beer drinkers from Sihanoukville are clogging up the tables" then some mods and members here condemn me for "hateful" and "racist" comments and the thread gets deleted or locked.

Recall that your typical expat loved my 7 Reasons articles about marrying and Facebook-friending Cambodian women, but then when I wrote "7 Ways Cambodia Can Solve its Foreign Dude Problem" they suddenly said "Hey, this guy isn't funny at all."

The other silly double standard is that a good number of my posts would fly right under the radar if posted under a sock puppet, but when I post them as Cam Nivag, they are tediously labeled as hateful trolling by a saboteur from TOF.

Lastly, the riverside is not a beach. Put a shirt on. On your back, not folded on your head, weirdo.

It's a fine line. We'll probably just have to agree to disagree.

I would think that because (in your example) the flabby backpacker chick, with flopping milk-wagons and vintage Russian market balloon pants, has made the local news outlets, there is a certain detachment and the more immature among us feel more comfortable with poking fun.

Whereas, the sun-soaking elders were sought out by you for the specific purposes of derision.

I see this differently. An influx of whoever, which causes the local economy to shift effects people directly, therefore it is a fair subject for discussion.

Sun worshiping retirees do not effect anyone.

There is a real possibility some of these people may read this forum, and may see what has been posted.

Why dont you stop hiding behind the internet, and go and tell them to their faces?

The one in the third pic has been around for years. I've seen him dressed like TE Lawrence, full white robe and the same head gear in the current pic.
Guess he's a harmless eccentric, or it would have made the news by now.

Destitute, alcoholic, shirtless white guys are openly brawling over rice wine on Cambodia’s most well known public promenade, but THE DAMN CHINESE are the problem.

Few here complained when Khmers sold out for cash and allowed about 200 hooker bars catering to sleazy white dudes to be built just off the riverside between 2004 and 2016. But the DAMN CHINESE CASINOS in Sihanoukville are an abomination.

That's just a tiny area of the city that can easily be avoided. Anyway, since you almost exclusively spend your time out in such bars, you must be one of the aforementioned "sleazy white dudes"?

I'm reformed. I'm only there like twice a week now. And only on Street 130, where it's civilized. I would never drink with the riff raff on Street 136.

Sorry to get off topic, or rather I guess it's back ON topic, but this Turkish guy that got arrested in Cambodia is a famous actor, Ekim Mağden, who starred in a bunch of crap none of us have probably ever seen, including a TV series in Turkey, Second Spring, where he played the character Omer.

Image

Ekim Mağden was born on April 23, 1979 and was more recently featured in a TV show called Subat, which again, I'm guessing none of us have seen.

I almost feel bad for un-derailing this topic, so here he is topless:

"Life is too important to take seriously."

"Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh."
