Re: PassApp scam
I think there are a couple of factors that helped it along. Fares being 30-50% lower on the apps, and the availability of LPG-powered Bajaj tuk tuks which really made that possible. When I arrived in May 2016 there were a few of them around but they were pretty rare. Now they're everywhere. It's been a revolution.John Bingham wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 10:37 pmIt is hilarious, and I'm embarrassed for being so shortsighted. However, it's from 4 years ago when smart phones were much less common and cost quite a bit more. Fair play to those who foretold the Passapp/ Grab future, which has only really hit off in the past year or so but has been revolutionary.

Re: PassApp scam
Does Grab have tuk tuk ordering through the app yet in Phnom Penh? My app only offers me cat and bike but I know I have seen green and white Grab tuk tuks
Re: PassApp scam
You can change the vehicle type in the app below the map after selecting pick up and drop off locations on the map. There are SUV, car, tuktuk (bio gas), rickshaw (petrol) and motorbike to choose.Wanker Wat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 04, 2019 2:37 pm Does Grab have tuk tuk ordering through the app yet in Phnom Penh?

Re: PassApp scam
I'm glad to see that if you now make it clear that you're looking over the driver's shoulder at the end of the ride, he will swipe once to end the ride and then put his hands in the air to show he's not pulling a stunt. Well, good drivers, anyway. Obviously the swiping-to-a-saved-screenshot scam was wider than just us, as we've seen maybe 5 drivers do the hands-in-the-air in the past week.
The newer stunt is that they'll "start" the fair a minute or two before arriving, hoping you won't notice the status change on your screen... all for the extra 5 cents. I dunno, maybe they're just bored.
Side note - we were being driven by a Formula 1 tuk tuk driver today who had an open roadie (beer) beside him and was driving like a maniac. He'd already patched the shattered windscreen with PassApp stickers though, so that was good.
Edit: it would be great if the app had a ranking system, which gave you the ability to black-list specific drivers from responding to your call in the future. If the same driver was to get blacklisted too many times, they'd lose their PassApp privileges.

I've noticed they rank the passengers out of 5 stars.
Slow down little world, you're changing too fast.
Re: PassApp scam
Is it not possible to pin your pickup location on the Grab app? You have to type in the name of a place? That is annoying.

Re: PassApp scam
I think you can pin but it snaps to the nearest designated spot to avoid confusion... Although confusion still occurs.

Re: PassApp scam
Previously I only used PassApp but I'm starting to use Grab now. I've had some poor experiences with PassApp in the last month or so, it seems like their drivers are getting dumber, that it takes longer for the app to find a driver and for them to show up at the pickup, etc. Had a few PassApp drivers recently who accepted and then never started driving to the pickup location. So far no problems with Grab

Re: PassApp scam
I have been using Grab but only because they have promo codes all the time. I feel bad because they've been known to use this means to kill off the competition and subsequently increase their fares once they gain a monopoly. So, I should probably use Passapp more.PhnomRon wrote: ↑Sat Jan 05, 2019 5:35 pm Previously I only used PassApp but I'm starting to use Grab now. It annoys me when they do not turn there phone on,or do not have them plugged in.Today leaving hospital i had got as far as The Pub when i realised he had no phone on show, when challenged he says "no speak english"change from when we chat outside Callemette.I told him how much i was willing to pay to carry on our journey and he agreed,i do not know wether the play on the fact that they know people have other things on their mind at Hospitals or they are just cheats out and out.
