Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on January 2, 2019 issued a strong winds warning for coastal areas as tropical storm PABUK is expected to develop into a typhoon as it approaches southern Thailand.
There will be rainfall across the south of Cambodia from 3-4 January, including Phnom Penh, but there is a high alert for the coastal region and the islands. Fishermen have been advised to take precautions.
Elsewhere, in the north of Cambodia, the cold temperatures should ease slightly.

Weekend storms damage about 50 houses in three provinces
Storms over the weekend damaged about 50 houses in Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Speu and Oddar Meanchey provinces but no one was injured.

Suon Bavor, Banteay Meanchey Governor, said today that strong winds and rain on Friday and Saturday and damaged around 30 houses and blew down trees.

Ath Khem, provincial police chief, said 30 houses and two school buildings were damaged in Poipet city, Thma Puok, Svay Chek, Preah Netr Preah and Malai districts.

Storm Warning for the Coast from July 18-21

The Ministry of Tourism has issued a notice to the Director of Department of Tourism of Phnom Penh and southern provinces to promote and advise all business owners, tourism services, operators, tourists and tourists to increase their awareness and high attention, especially for tourists visiting coastal areas and the islands.

The announcement came after the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology estimated that Southwest Monsoon was increasing its impact on the coastal area, along with a tropical storm named Danas in the Pacific Ocean in the west.

The forecast says that Danas, is expected to cause in the Kingdom of Cambodia from July 18 until July 21, 2018 in the coastal provinces and cities. There will be moderate to high rainfall, creating strong and high waves and storm surge.

The Ministry of Tourism therefore calls for the safety and security of national and international tourists, especially in the provinces bordering the sea to avoid any possible accidents.
