FUBAR

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

ខ្ទេចខ្ទី

K'tech k'tee

My wife says the latter is closer to fubar, with k'twam being more 'pain' than total destruction.
I'm still unsure why it is being romanised with a 'w'. As far as I'm aware that vowel doesn't have a 'w' sound attached to it at all.
Yeah there's no វ. The w isn't a literal transliteration, just the best I could convert it in my head. The vowel doesn't make a w sound, but ទាំ sounds to me like to-wam or toe-am so theres a w kind of there between the oe and the am.

Same with the ch. ខ្ទេច doesn't end with a hard ch sound, but I write it so I know what mouth position I need to bite off the end of the word.

Kuh teh Kuh toeam is perhaps better? Say that 3 times fast.

Anyway, took me about 20 minutes to be able to pronounce it.

Maybe Jamie can help out. It may be a local word, but the villagers accept and use it.
yeah epidemics covered most of it

ខ្ទេច - Ktech (K'tek) means to be smashed to bits/pulverized
ខ្ទាំ - Ktoam (K'toam) means to be smashed to smithereens/shattered/broken to bits
