It smells like Thailand....

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

It smells like Thailand....

Post by newkidontheblock »

As an early Christmas gift to myself, me and the missus went to Thailand. First time for me, her previous experience was shopping malls and Dream Boy.

Figured to best way to see as much as possible was by tour. Had both good and unexpected results.

First night, tuk tuk tour of Bangkok.

Stunning views of the wats, royal palace, big swing.

Then headed over the the Thai restaurant rumored to the wear Pad Thai cane from.

Image

Portions were small. Pad Thai was very orange colored and wrapped in egg.

Image

But came with fresh orange/tangerine juice with bits of fruit inside.

Then it was on to the reclining budda and Thai massage school. Colorful pottery adorned temple.

Image

Image

After the wet market and the flower market, it was time to call it a night.

Image

The next day started early for a tour of Ayutthaya and Bong Pa-in (King’s summer palace).

Unfortunately the king was in, so going inside the buildings wasn’t allowed. But the outsides were still beautifu.

Stopped at this wat and received a strong blessing from the monk and a lucky bracelet.

Returned back to Bangkok by river boat. With buffet lunch included.

Image

Passed by views like the protector Budda of Bangkok

Image

Learned that missus gets bus sick easily and seasick easily.

Image

The next day was another early morning start.
This time, personal car ride.

Image

Arrived at the train station. Old rickety train taking across the salt fields into town.

Image

Image

Town market is right on the tracks. Food carts are either pushed back on rollers, or just run underneath the train. Done 8 times a day.

Image

Image

Then it was on to a traditional Thai home that a family has converted into a living museum.

Image

Traditional coconut sugar making demonstration, and other ordinary Thai life in a family home. Even a pet rabbit on the stairs.

Image

The highlight of the day was the long tail boat ride to the floating market.

Image

Complete with small dog napping the refrigerator.

Image

Missus wanted to go to Paragon mall before returning to Cambodia in the morning.

Image

Giant desserts, impossible for 2 to finish.

Image

And that’s what I got for Christmas. Best present ever.

All the food in Thailand missus kept saying tastes like Thai, smells like Thai.

Sorry for the long post.

Given their specific situation maybe Prezen is safer choice. It's safe during conception and pregnancy, most others are not. :beer3:

Not where I was staying at. Pretty much foreigner area. No massive Chinese tourists buses seen.

According to the tour guides, the average Thais seems to be determined to not let the country become a colony of PRC China. There is a ‘Chinatown’ to go to for Chinese people and stuff. And it’s not on every street.

Yong can probably give a better idea of things in general.

About half of Bangkok is Chinese or part Chinese.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
